  • Description

My name is Arthur and I am a recently-graduated student of clinical psychology from England! I am massively motivated by adventure, meeting new people, and learning new skills. I enjoy finding out about others' lives and sharing experiences and stories. I love having a purpose and building towards something by collaborating with others. I am most happy outdoors, whether that's working hard at a project or relaxing in front of a sunset.

I am travelling to Kenya in September and I can't wait!! I really want to find somewhere that I can go for a month or so and get my teeth stuck into a project there! I am most excited about immersing myself into the lives and culture of whoever I am with. I am driven by not quite knowing what is out there and just finding out along the way. I have recently been hiking through Corsica and found the sense of adventure and freedom so addictive! I can't wait to go travelling alone as this will force me into new situations and help me meet so many new and wonderful people!

More details about my language interests
I know an intermediate level of French (better at listening/understanding than speaking!). But I would be very keen to improve that if I were to be staying with someone who speaks French! I am also very interested in learning whatever language is spoken where I am staying as I think this is such an important part of local culture and very helpful to get by!

  • More details about your skills

I have good experience working outdoors on various jobs. Whether this is chopping down trees, building shelters, or gardening. I am also a very quick learner so I'm sure I can pick up any new skills very easily!

I have recently completed my training as a low intensity CBT therapist. So I know quite a bit about mental health! Whether these skills directly come into use or not, I am very much a people-person and am always able to get on with people who I meet straight away!

I am a very active sports person and runner/hiker so I am very fit!

I have also got a lot of experience working with children in summer camps. I was promoted to camp leader during my last camp so I am used to and can deal with that kind of responsibility.

  • What else ...

I love reading and am currently reading the Count of Monte Christo by Alexandre Dumas. It is a very long book so I'm sure I will still be reading when I'm in Kenya! I really enjoy talking to people about books they have read or just anything interesting they know or have heard.

I also love card games and pretty much any sport you can think of! So I love learning new games of any sort and I think this is a great way to get to know new people.
