Description
Hi! I’m Giorgio, a 30-year-old architect from Sicily (Italy), currently based in Siracusa.
For the last years I’ve been splitting my time between architecture, renovation work and managing holiday homes, and now I’m looking for a slower, more grounded way of living for a while – closer to nature, manual work and real local life.
I’m not just a “behind the computer” architect: I’m very used to working with my hands.
In my own projects and family properties I’ve been involved in:
small renovations and refurbishments
basic carpentry and woodwork (shelves, simple furniture, outdoor structures)
painting, sanding, minor repairs
helping with simple electrical and plumbing work under guidance
setting up and improving indoor and outdoor spaces for guests
I also own and manage several holiday rentals, so I know well what it means to maintain a property, keep things clean and functional, and make people feel welcome. I’m used to dealing with:
check-in / check-out and guest communication
small maintenance issues
coordination of cleaning and laundry
basic administration (invoices, registrations, etc.)
On top of that, I really enjoy cooking (Italian and Mediterranean food especially) and sharing meals as a moment of community.
What I can help with
I’m happy to help where there is real, practical work to be done. In particular:
DIY & building projects
renovations of traditional houses, quintas, fincas, farm buildings
simple carpentry and wood projects
maintenance, painting, restoring old spaces with care and respect for local style
I’m very interested in learning more about natural building (earth, lime, stone, bamboo, etc.)
Farming, gardening & land work
vegetable gardens, fruit trees, planting, weeding, pruning
creating / maintaining terraces, paths, small retaining walls
compost, mulching, basic permaculture tasks
I don’t mind getting dirty or tired – I actually want to.
Hospitality & community
welcoming guests, simple front-desk tasks, showing spaces
helping with cleaning and keeping common areas beautiful and tidy
photos and basic content for social media if needed
I’m fit, I like physical work and I’m used to long days when there is a project that makes sense.
What I’m looking for
Right now I’m looking for longer stays (1–2 months) in places that offer:
lots of nature: mountains, ocean, valleys, rural or semi-rural areas
a simple lifestyle: garden, fresh food, shared meals, basic comforts are enough
real contact with local people, families or small communities
projects where I can learn and contribute, not just be “cheap labour”
I’m especially interested in:
reconstruction/restoration of traditional houses (rural houses, quintas, old farms, stone hamlets)
eco-projects, permaculture, off-grid or low-impact living
farm life where I can combine outside work with small building tasks (wood, earth, stone)
I’m not looking for party hostels or big, anonymous businesses; I prefer calm, respectful environments where people care about what they are building – both physically and in terms of community.
Languages & personality
Native language: Italian
I speak English fluently and Spanish well enough for daily life and work conversations.
As a person I’m:
responsible and respectful of other people’s spaces and time
curious and open to learning new techniques and ways of living
independent when needed, but I also really enjoy working and sharing with others
honest about my limits: I’m not a certified electrician or plumber, but I learn fast and I’m careful.
Availability
I’m currently looking for projects from early December to the end of January / early February, with the possibility to discuss longer stays if the collaboration works well for both sides.
If you feel my skills and mindset could be useful for your project, I’d be happy to talk and see how we can help each other.
