  • Description

    Hi,
My name is Anna, I enjoy adventurous pursuits, getting my hands dirty and learning to my hearts content, all life long practices. I am a visual artist and florist and work on farms with plants and animals. My involvements that I have recently delved into are natural building, living closer to the land (off- grid living), herbalism and homesteading. I love to cook and gather with friends through home made meals. I like to be involved in the healing arts - yoga, meditation, Qi gong and learning of ancient wisdom through theosophy. I love to be active and get around by bicycle and swim in the ocean. I love to write poetry paint and sculpt. Merging all of my passions together so they blend into one beautiful painting.

In the past I've been involved in various community service opportunities as I fully support the ethos of what these organizations stand for. One of which was the "free farm stand San Francisco" providing organic local produce gleaned from yards, urban gardens, and farmers markets - nutritive food available to all. I've experienced being a teachers assistant in an after school arts program called "city studio" through the San Francisco Art Institute in which we explored the cities culture through food traditions, reporting our findings through various media (illustration, television broadcast and a zine). I've also had the opportunity to take a hands on intensive in sustainable design building gathering places for students, seating areas and a deck from a redwood tree on the campus, in which we used a chainsaw! Through this course I gained insight into the process of creating functional objects and the resources and energy put forth in their creation, teachings that will continue to shape my thoughts and actions about living as a human and our relationship to the earth. Because of all of these experiences, working collaboratively is something that I truly enjoy and wish to continue to have and share.

In my life now I work on several farms on the coast of a small town in Northern California and a cozy hostel in an old Victorian home. The main farm I work on is an organic flower farm in small town on the coast of Northern California. Here I work in the fields hoeing, weeding and harvesting as well as making bouquets for the farmers market and store orders. I also work at a pasture raised animal farm for meat and dairy. Goats, lambs, cows, pigs and turkeys are the animals I help take care of. My farm duties are feeding the animals and moving their pens when they need fresh pasture. The last farm I am involved in is an herbal medicine farm for teas and fresh herbs sold locally.

I am searching for a project that is community oriented and has elements of creativity, art, sustainability and working with/having mindfulness of the land. I'd like to use travel as an opportunity to learn about life elsewhere, the traditions of cultures passed on from one generation to the next and hope that ithis can be an exchange of knowledge and heart, stories and sharing of laughs and delicious meals.

  • More details about your skills

I love to build and create, I have a degree in sculpture and grew up with an architect (my father), so environments of this creative nature suit me best. I enjoy working outdoors and have experience doing work trades on organic farms in pacific northwest and California. I can handle physical labor, and "monotonous" tasks (I find them meditative). I love to write and can lend a hand to any task that involves this skill, either creative or just informative. I am great at solving problems and finding harmony within a situation that needs to be resolved, simplifying and organizing are things I enjoy partaking in (both physically and non physically). I live off the grid so I am experienced with living situations of this manner, i.e. no running water (rain catchment and hauling water from town), solar power, using a generator, wood stove heat and composting toilets.

Cooking, caring for animals and house work are things that I have experience in, and enjoy to do as well! Recently I was house/cat sitting for several months in a rural part of California (six cats and one stray), have done dog sitting, baby sitting and currently maintaining an off the grid property in the forest with my boyfriend. Technologically adept (mac, pc, enjoy using photoshop), but mostly I just love to work with my hands, be outdoors, build and work on art endeavors.

Hoping for a project that involves natural building methods - I have made a cobb bench in a ceramics course I took, and I loved the entire process. I've dabbled in various homesteading pursuits - taken a course on the basics of having goats, fermenting food, off the grid living, and enjoy learning about herbal medicine and traditional use of plants within a particular local - so anything related to this nature of work/living is ideal.

When I am passionate about a project I really can put my heart and creativity into the work.
