  • Description

We are Markus and Andrea - a happily married couple of 15 years. We are non-smokers and do not have any special dietary requirements. Markus has a driver's licence.
Andrea was born in Singapore and moved to Australia as a teenager and has lived there ever since. Markus is a German national, having lived in both Germany and the Canary Islands previously. We both now call Hobart, Tasmania in Australia, home.
Andrea’s full-time job is as a legal personal assistant and in her spare time enjoys singing in choirs, playing her oboe in a band and doing glass work. Markus, meanwhile, is an aged carer and his previous occupations included brewer, carpenter and builder. He enjoys bagpipe playing and has a great interest in history.
We have travelled extensively with our adventures taking us away from routine life every once in a while for a period of a year or more.
Our explorations have included walking from Canterbury to Rome and we participated in a similar programme as Workaway in New Zealand travelling and working on farms in 2013.
In 2016, we walked in Spain from Sevilla to Santiago on the Via de la Plata, across the Alps from Germany to Italy and Andrea spent a wonderful month in Crete working on a donkey sanctuary.
In 2019, we walked the Camino Portuges and Camino Norte in Spain/Portugal, lived half a year in Germany, spent a couple of months in the Galapagos (with Workaway) and Andrea once again spent a month working in a donkey sanctuary but this time in the United Kingdom.
In 2022, after the horrors of Covid and borders started to open again, we headed back to Spain to walk the Caminos Mozarabe, El Salvador and Primitivo. We were then invited back by previous hosts in New Zealand to restore an old woolshed and renovate a dishevelled cabin which we found most rewarding.
As you might have gathered, we love long distance walking.
Besides her home country, Andrea has lived and worked in Singapore, Finland, Norway, Canary Islands, Spain, Canada, China, New Zealand, Greece and United Kingdom. She adores animals and has a soft spot for donkeys having spent 3 months on the Canary Islands, a month in Spain, a month in Crete and a month in the United Kingdom working at donkey sanctuaries on a volunteer basis. Besides his home country, Markus has lived and worked in the Canary Islands, New Zealand and of course, Australia.
We are gearing up to travel the world again and have registered with Workaway in the event that there is an opportunity to get involved with some hosts' projects during our travels. We are a great supporter of such programmes as we have found that it benefits both parties in many aspects.
We are hoping to do a bit of housesitting as we would love to care for animals and stay in one spot for awhile to be able to explore and be part of the community.
