  • Description

I'm Victoria, a 27-year-old Austrian who has just graduated university (English studies and translation). Before I start a 9-5 job in Austria which I will have until I'll retire at the young age of 80, it is my dream to see a bit of the world and immerse myself in other cultures. I tried to travel as much as I could while doing my degrees but 2-3 weeks in a country is not enough to get to know it. It's time to change this. Seeing Scandinavian countries are my main goal since I love the nature and am interested in the Scandinavian cultures.
I wish to stay about two months per country, perhaps a bit more/less depending on the situation.

I also love creative writing, mostly fantasy, and am looking forward to regaining my creative drive after spending many months staring at my computer to finish my master’s theses. A change of scenery, cultural exhange etc. will be immensly inspiring to a writer's soul.

More details about my language interests
As a translation student, I'm generally interested in languages. I've fallen in love with the English language and British culture when I first visited the UK at the age of 11, so much so that I've studied it. Now I'm moving on to Scandinavian languages and have started learning Swedish a short time ago. I'm a German native, but since I'm from Austria (Styria), I have a dialect. However, I can speak (and teach) standard German.

  • More details about your skills

While studying English, I've worked as a receptionist at the Opera Graz and improved my communication skills by handling inquiries from colleagues as well as guests in both English and German – and with gestures when my conversation partner spoke neither. I was also among the first responders when it came to emergencies (e.g. fire alarm).

Additionally, I’ve worked as a stable hand for almost three years, where I cared for 3-4 lovely horses/ponies. I've also sporadically worked as a pet sitter, mostly for cats including a very old but wonderful tomcat, but also dogs, fish, and a turtle.

During the Covid-Pandemic, when I still lived with my parents, I took care of the entire household becaues my parents (nurses) worked overtime and I wanted to support them. I'm in general a tidy person and prefer to keep the space I live in clean and comfy.

While I'm not an IT-person, I can usually get by rather well with computers and phones.

  • What else ...

Whenever I'm asked "tell me something about yourself", I tend to forget who I am... Still, lets give it a try.

I love reading, which one can probably guess from a person who loves writing. While I mainly write fantasy, my reading portfolio is more diverse. Because of my degree, I read numerous classics including Shakespeare and Poe. Often I do jigsaws while listening to audiobooks.

While my degree put great focus on literature, my main love was always for culture, which is why I wrote my first thesis on this topic. Especially mythology and history interest me and I'm quite well read in Irish mythology.

Although I'm not too much of a sports person, I take dance classes and enjoy taking walks through the forest. Running is something I only do when the air is warm enough so it doesn't feel like I'm breathing ice. I'm also a quite decent skier and snowboarder.

I'm also a family person and love family festivities, mostly held at my grandparent's farm, and playing board games with my parents and brothers.
