I spent a little over a month here, and that place is truly special! During my stay I went for many walks and hikes, both alone and with the other Workawayers, and each time the magnificent view of the mountains and air fragrant with wild thyme and sage left me speechless.
Everyone in the family was so generous in every way; with their time,… read more food, homes, and in offering lifts and tours around the area. Noufris (the dad) even took us to a traditional Cretan taverna, where we shared some of the best food I’ve had in a long time. Ioanna (one of the family’s daughters) was incredibly helpful and communicative, which made me feel welcome and made planning my journey there super easy. We also shared some really good homemade meals together! Lotte (the mom) is amazing and I am thankful for the talks I had with her. She works hard to make everything run smoothly and I truly appreciate all her efforts of making us feel seen and comfortable during our stay.
The work itself was sometimes easy and sometimes hard, but never too hard. I really loved the daily routine of having breakfast and then heading down to the studio. It was very rewarding to take part in every step of the production and see the pieces come to life! :)

There are a few things to keep in mind: While the sea is only about 20-25 minutes away by bus, getting there required a bit more planning than I had expected, especially since I had imagined going for a swim every day after work. The bus ran regularly but only a few times a day, so I had to plan carefully and sometimes hitchhike. It's definitely manageable, but if you're someone who enjoys a lot of freedom and spontaneous outings, it might feel a little limiting at times. Again, it’s definitely doable, but just something worth keeping in mind.

Also, the profile gave me the impression of staying with a family but during my time it was only Noufris at home, with Lotte visiting a few times a week during work hours. This is something I would have liked to be more clear. Noufris was warm and welcoming but not very involved in the daily rhythm of things like cooking or cleaning. So it was mostly up to the Workawayers to create the daily structure and atmosphere around the house. At times, I felt there were some unspoken expectations around food, particularly at lunchtime, but in the end, the other Workawayers and I created a setup that worked well for us.

And - a special shoutout to Marthe who is an absolute sweetheart and who helped me a lot with the work. I shared many good moments with her. Faleminderit :)))

All in all, staying here was a special experience, and I’m really thankful for the time I spent there. I met some amazing people, shared good meals, and enjoyed nature, ceramics and a slower way of life.
