    Description

    Hello Everyone!

We are located in the beautiful mountains of the Cretan countryside and are looking for motivated people to help us with a variety of creative and ecological projects throughout the year.

We would like to host positive and passionate people from around the world who would like to meaningfully help with some daily tasks in ceramics. In addition to working with clay, we have a big back garden, as well as a vineyard and olive groves that need attention throughout the year. Seasonal tasks might include pruning, weeding, harvesting, and general upkeep.

The house is rustic yet comfortable, originally built over 90 years ago and gradually renovated over the past 40 years. We’re still working on a few renovation and expansion projects around the home, and would welcome any help and ideas with these throughout the year.

The location is around an hour away from Chania in the southwest part of Crete. It is a small, remote village virtually untouched by tourism, so staying here is a chance to experience Greece as a true local.

We look forward to speaking with you soon!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The location is great for a real cultural dive since it has not been exposed to tourism and seems to have been stuck in time. This gives visitors a true experience of the lives of local Greek people in the way they have done for many generations.

We have spent over 40 years researching Ancient Greek civilisations, mythology and history, especially when it comes to art and ceramics, so we have a lot of knowledge to share during a meaningful exchange.

Overall, the tasks and projects here are versatile, so it would make a stay interesting and knowledgeable. We make sure to take into account people's strengths and differences.

Sometimes the various processes in ceramics can be repetitive in nature, but are overall meditative and rewarding. Other aspects can be a bit more physically demanding and involve heavy lifting at times. It is an enjoyable working atmosphere where your hands will definitely get dirty!

Based on the season, we would need help with ecological tasks as we have a fruitful vineyard and lands with olive trees and gardens.

After the working hours, we expect everyone to take a little time out of their day to contribute to their part of the daily chores in the common spaces and maintain an overall clean environment.

The bathroom and kitchen area are open to everyone and shared with the rest of the house.

The house has a lot of outdoor space, a big garden and views of the surrounding mountains.

For heating in the winter, there is a fireplace and partly electric heating.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The village is remote with many scenic paths for hiking and connecting with nature. There is a a beautiful beach town called "Sougia" which is a 20 minute bus ride away, it is a full pebble beach with crystal blue waters and lovely sunsets, it also has local cafes, restaraunts and mini markets.

Over late Spring to early Autumn there are also regular busses between Chania & Sougia which pass through our village. This bus can take you to the starting point of some beautiful gorges, beaches, other villages or to experience some sightseeing in the center of Chania on the days off.

Big festivals, locally called 'Glendia' happen quite often since we live in an Orthodox Christian culture which celebrates name days and other religious holidays with big feasts and traditional music...Greek people are always finding a reason to enjoy life's sweet moments!
