Hoping to find a stay for Christmas somewhere - Maybe two weeks before and two weeks after. If you think I would be a good fit, please get in touch!
My next destination:
Finland - from Dec 2024 until Jan 2025 View allDescription
Ever since quitting the comforts of the corporate world back in October 2020, I've taken volunteering as an important way of life. It used to be a much loved hobby, but is now even more than that.
I spent 2021 volunteering full time in the UK at various organisations. The ones that became most prominent were for Leeds Hospitals Charity [where I did a lot of work easing the stress of NHS workers, COVID sufferers and their relatives during the pandemic], SlungLow [a community theatre group which became a non-means tested foodbank throughout lockdown] & The Real Junk Food Project [which tries to reduce as much food waste as possible]. That led me to become a warehouse manager for TRJFP, which included managing 200 ish volunteers!
It has made me appreciate just how much rewarding life can be when you give other people your time, your hands and your ideas.
An opportunity came about in 2022 to travel and volunteer in Central America. A planned 2 month trip, quickly turned into an unplanned 10 months :D
I spent two months on a permaculture farm in Costa Rica; 2 months at a hostel in Guanaja, Honduras; and 2 months at an animal rescue place in Mexico, with travelling spells in between. I made friendships, met amazing souls, picked up Spanish and learnt new skills along the way.
Since coming back to the UK, I've been lucky enough to spend lots of quality time with my three young nieces, but my feet are starting to get itchy again!
I most enjoy hard and heavy outdoor work, but happily get stuck into anything. I find it difficult to not complete a task once I've started one, so don't be surprised to see me still working away as the sun sets!
Ideally looking for a minimum stay of a month, but can also be flexible.Interests

As soon as I arrived I felt very welcome from everyone, and it was hard to say goodbye (I ended up overstaying my visa!)

I felt welcomed by all the people that work on the finca, right from the very start.
Sophia has extensive knowledge of agriculture and permaculture, and was always happy to answer any questions I had. I feel like I learnt a lot.
There was a large variety of jobs and… read more
