  • Description

Hi! I'm Sorrel and I’m a 23-year-old English Literature graduate from the UK, currently travelling through Central and South America in search of meaningful cultural exchange and hands-on experiences. I studied Spanish in school and am excited to keep learning and improving through real-life immersion. A highlight of my travels so far has been volunteering on a ranch in Patagonia. The experience not only gave me the chance to connect with amazing people and learn practical skills, but also sparked a deeper interest in ecological living, sustainable farming, and alternative ways of working with the land. It opened my eyes to how communities around the world engage with nature and food systems — something I’d love to keep exploring in different cultural contexts. I’m a hardworking, curious, and open-minded person who’s always ready to get involved and contribute however I can. Whether it’s helping with farm work, community projects, or language exchange, I bring energy, adaptability, and a genuine willingness to learn. I’m also passionate about international development and human rights, and hope to build a career in those fields.

Hi I’m Amika! I’m a curious and open-minded 23-year-old from the UK, currently travelling through South America after finishing my Anthropology degree at Durham University. I’m motivated by meaningful cultural exchange, learning about the world through people, and contributing to something bigger than myself. I love helping out where I can, especially if it means being part of a community, learning new skills, or practicing Spanish.
I’m happiest when I’m outdoors, connecting with others, and immersed in new places—whether that’s working on a community project, helping in a hostel, or getting involved in research or education initiatives. I’m respectful, enthusiastic, and always keen to learn and lend a hand!

More details about my language interests
Sorrel: I grew up in England, but my mother is French, so I speak fluent French. I also studied German for over 10 years and lived in Germany, which helped me become fluent. I’ve studied Spanish for five years at school and recently spent two months living and volunteering on a ranch in Patagonia where I had to communicate only in Spanish! I’ve now been travelling through Central and South America for six months, which has brought my Spanish to an intermediate level which I am keen to continue to improve. I also have extensive experience tutoring languages and conversation skills, both one-on-one and in group settings, which I really enjoy and am excited to bring to my Workaway experience. Amika: I am fluent in English thus would be confident in a teaching role. My mother is Japanese and i have spent many years there so I have very good comprehension skills and confident conversational ability. I have studied French for 10 years so have a general understanding and proficiency in the language. Since starting travelling in Central and South America since February, I have started to learn Spanish. I attended Spanish school in Cartagena, Colombia for 2 weeks, where I developed a basic understanding and I am very keen to keep developing my skills and understanding wherever and whenever I can!

  • More details about your skills

Sorrel: I bring a broad set of skills, a strong work ethic, and a positive, adaptable attitude to every project I join. I speak fluent English, French, and German, and have intermediate Spanish — I love using language to connect with people and support cultural exchange.
I’m a classically trained musician (violin, piano, and voice) and have experience teaching both music and academic subjects including languages and mathematics to both children and adults. I enjoy teaching and am always happy to share knowledge in a fun, engaging way.
In the past, I’ve worked as a lifeguard and sports assistant at a leisure centre and have experience organising and supervising sports and recreational activities for groups and classes. I’m confident managing groups, keeping energy high, and making sure everyone feels included and safe.
Professionally, I’ve also worked as an executive assistant and publicity manager, where I developed strong administrative, organisational, and social media skills. I’m comfortable handling tasks like communication, scheduling and general coordination.
On a more hands-on level, I’ve frequently helped out on my grandfather’s farm and more recently spent time volunteering on a ranch in Patagonia. These experiences gave me practical knowledge in animal care, gardening, and outdoor manual work, as well as a deeper interest in sustainable and ecological farming.
I also have several years of experience working in hospitality — especially waitressing — so I’m comfortable in busy environments, great with people, and used to working long hours with a smile.
Overall, I’m a motivated, flexible, and friendly person who’s happy to help in any way I can — whether that’s teaching, farm work, admin, hospitality, or community support.

Amika: I have strong research and analytical skills developed through my Anthropology degree, where I designed and carried out independent projects and worked closely with others across a range of topics. I also have several years of experience working with children and teenagers as a gymnastics coach as well as in a professional managerial context which has taught me how to lead with confidence, communicate clearly, adapt to different needs, and create a safe, positive, and fun environment.
I’m a native English speaker, conversational in Japanese, proficient in French and currently learning Spanish, which helps me connect with people from different backgrounds and contribute in multilingual settings. During university, I led multiple student societies, where I gained excellent organisational and administrative skills—managing events, coordinating teams, handling budgets, social media and promoting activities through modes such as social media.
I’m also a naturally creative person with a love for the arts. I’ve sung and played the violin for many years and have a strong interest in music, visual arts, and creative expression. I enjoy using creativity in practical and collaborative ways, and I always bring enthusiasm, reliability, and a thoughtful, open-minded attitude to any project I’m part of.

  • What else ...

In our free time, we love reading and exploring the outdoors (swimming, hiking, running, yoga) - especially when it leads to hidden waterfalls or beautiful, off-the-beaten-path spots in nature! We also really enjoy food and cooking we’re really keen to discover new recipes from different cultures. We’re passionate about learning and understanding different cultures and ways of living around the world - we believe that in order grow as a person, you need to be exposed to as many different lifestyles and perspectives as possible. We’re always curious to learn and try new things, including card games (though we have to admit, we can get quite competitive!). Whether it's sharing a meal, a walk, or a game, we love the small, everyday moments that bring people together.
