Description
Hello my name is Samuel and I am a hardworking, adaptable, and positive person who enjoys being outdoors, learning new skills, and contributing meaningfully wherever I go.
I grew up in Alaska but have spent much of my life in Australia, where my family is based. Through this, I’ve developed a strong connection to rural life and have grown up around farms and livestock. I’ve also worked on cattle and sheep musters across northern New South Wales and southern Queensland, which gave me hands-on experience with animal handling, long days outdoors, and the realities of farm work. I’m comfortable in physically demanding environments and genuinely enjoy the lifestyle that comes with it.
More recently, I worked as a farmhand on a 5-acre orchard in Hawaii, where I was involved in fruit picking, pruning, general maintenance, and construction. I also helped run a weekly farmers’ market stall, which strengthened my customer service skills and my ability to communicate confidently with people from all walks of life.
I have experience in previous roles working as a deckhand during the Bristol Bay salmon run in Alaska, maintaining large properties as part of a grounds crew, and working in fast-paced market environments — I’ve built a strong work ethic and the ability to stay focused under pressure. I’m used to long hours, physically demanding work, and situations that require resilience and a clear head.
I bring a mix of practical skills and personal qualities: I’m reliable, physically capable, and not afraid of hard work. I plan tasks carefully, solve problems when challenges arise, and take pride in doing things properly. I also communicate well and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team.
I’m currently studying Economics, but I’m equally passionate about gaining real-world experience, especially in farming, sustainability, and hands-on work. Workaway is a great opportunity for me to keep learning, meet new people, and contribute wherever I can.
I’m always ready to get involved, work hard, and help out wherever needed.

What else ...
I’m most interested in outdoor and hands-on activities. I really enjoy farm work, especially anything involving animals, gardening, or general land maintenance. I’m also keen to learn more about sustainable farming practices and different ways of living off the land.
Outside of work, I like staying active — hiking, swimming, fishing, and exploring new places. Having grown up between Alaska and Australia, I’ve always enjoyed being in nature and making the most of the environment around me.
I also enjoy meeting new people, sharing meals, and learning about different cultures and ways of life. I’m always up for helping out with whatever’s needed and trying something new.
