Description
Hi, I’m Sophie, and I’m from near Washington, D.C. in the United States. I graduated from university with my undergraduate degree in Studio Art (making visual art) a couple years ago. I feel like I missed out on a lot due to the pandemic, which took place while I was in university. Now, as a young adult with EU citizenship, I want to take advantage of the freedom I have to travel, which has always been important to me.
My friends describe me as curious, kind, creative, and empathetic. I have always loved learning, especially about wildlife and how things work. I enjoy knitting, all kinds of visual art (painting, drawing, digital art, relief printmaking, photography), and eating a little bit of dark chocolate every day. ;) -

I love learning in general, and I want to immerse myself as much as possible! I love talking with people about the relationships between our languages, like where words are the same or similar, or phrases that only make sense in one language. I learned Spanish for several years in school, but I am out of practice. Over the past year, I have been learning basic French with Duolingo. I am also happy to help you with English in any way I can! -

More details about your skills
My most meaningful volunteer experience so far has been in Madagascar. I went there as a teenager, with National Geographic, to learn about conservation and help local communities. That trip changed me, and gave me a whole new idea of what travel could be!
As I mentioned earlier, I studied art at university. I have a good eye for design, which can be helpful in many ways, like with setting up displays at a store or making signs. I love to make things with my hands, make things beautiful, and communicate information in a visual way!
I have a lot of experience with customer service, working with a group, and working in stores. I have worked directly with customers at a department store, and I was a manager at a craft store for almost a year. Now, I am working at a cafe, where I do a little bit of everything, including: helping customers, making LOTS of coffee and sandwiches, opening and closing the cafe, and designing the signs that we change every week (which is my favorite part).
Most of all, I LOVE learning new skills! I am always looking for a challenge, and I like to learn how things work. I am especially interested in anything art-related. I would also love to learn about building things, mending clothes, working with animals, and cooking. I am a curious person, so I am willing to try almost anything! -
