  • Description

Hi there, my name is Rose! I am from the beautiful country of New Zealand and have a great love of travel!

Once I turned 18 and saved enough money I was out in the world travelling. I absolutely love meeting new people, learning about new cultures and trying new things that push my comfort zone. As a result, I have never been one to say no to any opportunity so I have many cool stories, which include sledging down a volcano, swimming with sharks, sky diving, taking a hot air balloon over beautiful landscapes and many more. However, when I am back in NZ you will most likely find me on an adventure with my dog or spending time with friends and family.

I have done Workaway before and loved it! My next adventure is taking me to Sri Lanka in May and I would love to be considered as your next Workawayer!

  • More details about your skills

With a dynamic and adaptable skill set, I have experience across leadership, education, research, and technical fields. My background includes management roles in both retail and nonprofit sectors, where I developed strong leadership, team coordination, and operational oversight skills. As a 2IC in a New Zealand retail store and a manager for an NGO’s retail store, I excelled in staff supervision, inventory management, and customer service.

In the scientific and environmental sector, I have worked as a field technician for a plant breeding company and a research assistant for my local council, honing my skills in data collection, analysis, and fieldwork, as well as ensuring precision in research methodologies.

A significant part of my experience has been working with youth in outdoor and experiential education in Canada. As an outdoor education specialist and a high ropes specialist manager at a summer camp, I have taught and mentored children and young people in outdoor skills, adventure activities, and personal development. These roles have strengthened my ability to create engaging learning environments, foster student confidence, and adapt my teaching style to different learning needs. I have experience leading groups through structured and experiential learning, using hands-on activities to encourage teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving.

My work with youth has given me strong communication, patience, and leadership skills—qualities essential for effective teaching. I understand how to manage group dynamics, provide clear instruction, and build positive relationships with students to create a safe and supportive learning atmosphere. Whether in a classroom or an outdoor setting, I am passionate about helping young people develop new skills, overcome challenges, and grow in confidence.

I thrive in roles that require adaptability, problem-solving, and leadership, and I bring a strong mix of hands-on experience and management expertise to any team.

In 2022 I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Political Science and International Relations at the University of Canterbury.

I have previously done a Workaway in Costa Rica and loved my experience working at a local rafting lodge. Now I am hoping to engage in more Workaway experiences in Sri Lanka :)
