  • Description

    Hello people,

We, Jana (31) and Patrick (33), have been a couple for 9 years and are currently enjoying a longer break. We are using this time to travel around South America. In addition to the beautiful nature, we enjoy to learn more about new cultures and lifestyles. We think Workaway offers a good opportunity to do so.

My name is Patrick and I am an enthusiastic and curious person. I like to talk to others and learn new perspectives and philosophize about life. But I also like to try out new things in a practical way. I can get a lot out of the impulsive life in the city and enjoy sitting in a bar with friends or dancing the night away. However, I find peace and calm in nature. I enjoy the peace and quiet there and take pleasure in simply lying around or meditating. When I'm not listening to the birds, I like listening to music. It can come from speakers, but it's even better when there's live music. I'm happy to join in, but unfortunately I don't have any talent. To get back into the flow, I like to get a active. A bit of morning exercise, a run, some strength training or bouldering from time to time... Especially while traveling, I also enjoy multi-day hikes, longer bike tours or via ferratas.

My name is Jana and I would describe myself as a joyful, curious, active and helpful person. Whenever possible I am trying to get out into nature, whether it's horseback riding, skiing, jogging, gardening, yoga, hiking, climbing or simply relaxing in the sun. What I enjoy most is sharing these activities with other people. But I also enjoy being alone with myself and my thoughts. Unfortunately, my curiosity, my wide-ranging interests and my ambition sometimes push me to the limits of a stress-free lifestyle. Although Patrick's calm manner slows me down, there is still room for improvement, maybe during this trip 😉 My work as a psychologist is my passion. I am fascinated by people's different ways of living and dealing with challenges. I also enjoy building sustainable relationships with people and supporting them at various stages of their lives.

thank you for taking the time to get to know something about us. Maybe we will meet in person soon :)

    End of advertisment, much love!
    Patrick & Jana

  • More details about your skills

    Jana:
I grew up in the countryside in a family that has lived and worked with animals for generations. So I was able to learn early on how to herd cows in meadows, how to deal with dogs and how to look after horses. This also included producing feed such as hay, disposing of their droppings, constructing pasture fences and driving utility vehicles. My grandmother taught me how to cultivate our own kitchen garden and use the vegetables for cooking. I was also able to build on this knowledge and skills during a work-and-travel stay on a potato farm in Australia. My farmer placed me with his friends and family, where I did painting, gardening and housework. This experience was very useful when I was renovating my apartment.
I also like to live out my creative side by doing handicrafts, painting and singing in a choir. As a psychologist, I am used to dealing with children and I also teach children from the neighborhood how to ride in my free time.

    Patrick:
Unlike Jana, I grew up in the big city. However, she taught me how to work with animals and I often helped her with different tasks on the farm. During a three-week stay on a farm in Nepal, I also helped the family with the daily chores.
As an engineer at a university, I am confronted with theoretical rather than practical tasks. I supervised students on various projects and sometimes gave lectures. In general, I have a good technical understanding and would be happy to get involved in any construction work. I have already helped my mother with roofing and renovation under the guidance of a professional. Research is part of my job and I can (and am willing to) learn new things and put them into practice in a team or on my own. For example, composting toilets have already been successfully installed in a friend's garden after prior research. I also collected old pieces of furniture for our shared apartment and used the materials to build new furniture.

We are always happy to learn new things :)
