Description
Hi there, I’m Noémi.
I've been living in Berlin since 8 years, where I am about to finish my political science degree (focussing on social movement studies). In the last couple of years I did a variety of different jobs: I ran a café, worked as a cook/ kitchen manager, a translator, a research- and production assistant and am currently working as a journalist.
I’m very curious and love learning new languages and ways of living as well as being part of all kinds of collective projects. From archives to community gardens, kitchens and all spaces of knowledge sharing and mutual care. I have a passion for cooking, gardening, listening to history podcasts, dancing, music, art and creative endeavors, being active outdoors, reading and all animals (I do have one favorite though, you might have guessed it already 🐈⬛).
What brings me the greatest happiness is being in nature, observing all its little creatures, shapes and colors; bringing people together around a table with lots of food; learning to play the guitar and making little movies with my video camcorder. -

One of my most fervent interests! My mother is a translator and has spoken English and French with me since early childhood. I followed in her footsteps and recently started working as a translator (both live and in writing) for English and French in a cultural center in Berlin. I also have some experience working as a private French tutor. My current priorities are learning Arabic and Portuguese but I'm open to any and all languages :) -

More details about your skills
I'd say my biggest skill is that I adapt quickly to any environment I get tossed into and find pleasure in it actually :) I'm communicative, flexible and attentive to my surroundings and I enjoy taking care of the people around me. Some of my other skills that come in handy for collaborating with diverse people and teams include being hardworking, humorous and kind.
Although I'm a city child and my WordPress and Social Media skills will most probably not be a priority for many of the jobs on here, I am a quick learner and not at all afraid to get my hands dirty. I volunteer in a local gardening project in Berlin where I‘ve learnt different things ranging from growing and using medicinal plants to caring for and regenerating the soil.
From my decade long work as both an employee and a manager in gastronomy/ hospitality - I have worked in hotels, on trade fairs, in several restaurants and cafes - I know how to organize myself and a team and I enjoy engaging with all sorts of different people on a daily basis.
I also have a couple of years of experience with babysitting and taking care of kids ages 0 to 10. I learnt dutch from babysitting 3 very small dutch kids at the same time, which was a great way to learn a language.
From fellow activists and organizers, I’ve learnt how to operate in non hierarchical teams and how to find tools to divide up care work and recreational labor more equally. -

What else ...
I‘d love to learn more about farming, teaching, animal care, beekeeping, community building, biodiversity conservation and all things practical (woodworking, plumbing, electricity). I love to be by the ocean and I’ll teach you how to cook if you teach me how to bake ♥️ but I must warn you I have a hard time sticking to recipes..
some board games I really enjoy are Durak, Codenames and puzzles (if those count) -
