  • Description

    Description

We are Daniel, Elena and a small baby aiming to build a house surrounded by permaculture principles to enjoy life here.
We have a small piece of land where we will build our home, making it as self-sufficient and sustainable as possible (solar panels, water harvest, reuse of grey waters, etc.).
Surrounded by a garden around the house, we dream of having chicken house for fresh eggs and a couple of sheep to maintain the grass low!
Located 5km from Pazin, it provides an ideal "isolated" and calm place within 5-10 minutes from all amenities.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You can join our family activities and see how Istrian people live. We often spend free days in the beach or in the mountains, and we will be happy to take you along with us!

Our life is very simple: nothing fancy or what they would sell you in a touristic agency... you'll see our reality here. Hard to explain unless you come and experience it! Certainly our dialect of Croatian with a big Italian influence is something you won't see elsewhere!

We have been workawayers ourselves, but as a growing family with less travelling opportunities, hosting is our way of discovering new stories and share back!

  • Help

    Help

Main help needed at the moment:
    - Build a fence and plant bushes around the property
    - Set up a good long term composting system
    - Build a compostable toilet
    - Plant lots of fruit trees: "The best moment to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best moment is NOW" :D

Some random artistic projects we have in mind:
    - Build a giant wooden chess
    - Do some mosaic artwork underneath the pergola
    - Build a small minigolf (2-3 flags)
    - Build an outside spa
    - Build a sundial

In addition, there are always "boring tasks" available if you really want to come when there are no big projects going on:
    - Forest wood collection (clearing the brush, organizing logs for winter use) for heating at home.
    - Assisting in the olive groves to produce our oil for self-consumption (tree pruning, field cleaning, and harvesting).
    - General gardening (planting, weeding, pruning, lawn mowing, harvesting, etc.) for growing our own food.

Help required might depend on the moment of your stay, so please feel free to reach out and ask!
We'll try to accommodate to whatever you are more comfortable with or the skills you want to learn. We are more than happy to share what we know with patience, so everyone is welcome!
Let us know if you have any particular skills, of course!

Always happy to improve our German, Spanish and French skills! We can definitely share some Croatian and although our English and Italian are fluent, we do not consider ourselves bilingual :)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Depending on the season, we can offer a small independent studio (Check the pictures: living room with open kitchen and private toilet). Otherwise, there is always land available (for a tent/ campervan).

You'll have breakfast on your own (we'll provide everything), we'll have lunch altogether and then some days share dinner or bring it to you! Happy to pack lunch/dinner if you are on your day off and want to be on your own.

We love cooking, so we'll always try to cook delicious and healthy food (please let us know of your dietary requirements). Sharing stories over meals is something we love!

Most importantly, we want you to have a great time, so feel free to share any particular wishes, even if they seem "weird"... we'll do our best to accommodate them. We have been workawayers ourselves and sometimes wondered whether hosts would be open to random questions (having dinner books, bikes, etc)

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are many things to do around Pazin, including sports, culture and traditional sightseeing.
Pazin is located 5 km from our home, and there is a train station 3km away (in the Ljubljana-Pula train line)

If biking is your thing, there are many bike trails around (istria dash trails dot com) including an old rail trail we particularly love. It is called the "Parenzana" (parenzana dot net)

We have two bikes to lend you, so you are free to move around. Centrally located within Istria, you can enjoy lots of scenic towns as well: Motovun, Gračišće, Rovinj, etc

The coast is a bit farther but you can go by train+bike, by bus or we can coordinate to bring you with us!

Walking from our place, there are some non-spectacular yet amazing small paths through the forest!
You can also borrow from us some camping equipment and other sports stuff, feel free to ask!

We also have some board games we can play together and a humble collection of books (mostly in Croatian, English and Spanish) that you are more than welcome to borrow and enjoy!
