Hey, my name is Mike! I’m originally from Southend-on-Sea in the UK, a small city about 1 hour away from London.

I’ve always loved travelling and promised myself that one day I’d travel long-term and this year I took the leap and decided to do just that. I’m pretty well travelled in Europe so I decided to explore Southeast Asia, writing this from Vietnam! It’s been amazing so far and I’m really proud of the fact that I’ve made this trip possible for myself.

I’m new to Workaway but not volunteering. Over the past few years, I volunteered as an English teacher, after completing a TEFL qualification, with charities that support asylum seekers and refugees in the UK. It was brilliant to play a part in helping the people in my classes to settle into the community by developing their languages skills. I also found that I was quite good and really enjoyed teaching English, going onto completing a CELTA qualification in March 2024. Although, my volunteer experience is centred around teaching I’m very open-minded and more than happy to give anything a go!

In my spare time, back home I play football and sometimes ultimate frisbee 🥏 (which I started playing during my time at uni). Growing up by the sea I also love water sports like paddle-boarding!

I’m an open-minded, kind and hardworking person and have good experience in the following:

- Teaching English as a Foreign Language to classes of mixed age groups and ability levels. I have a TEFL certificate and I’m also CELTA qualified.

- I have a bachelors degree in Business Studies with Finance and have three 3+ years of experience working in international businesses in project management and sales roles.

-5+ years of retail and customer service experience.
