Description
Hi there! We’re Matt and Damaris - a nature-loving couple passionate about farming and the outdoors. We met each other in 2020 while working on the same farm in Saskatchewan. We both enjoy being outside in nature, are reliable, hardworking, and can work independently. In our freetime we enjoy going for walks, fishing, camping, and baking sourdough bread.

More details about your skills
I (Matt), grew up on a dairy farm in Switzerland and completed a three-year apprenticeship as a Swiss farmer, gaining hands-on experience with vegetable farming, dairy cows, and custom farm operations. In 2013, I had my first taste of farming in Canada, spending six months working on an organic grain farm in southeastern Saskatchewan. I moved to Canada in 2019, to follow my passion for farming full-time. Since then I worked on grain farms in two different regions in Saksatchewan - one medium-sized and one larger operation - gaining experience with a variety of crops, including, peas, canola, wheat, oats, and barley. My work has covered all aspects of grain farming, from grain cleaning, seeding and spraying to fertilizing and harvesting. Beyond fieldwork, I developed strong mechanical skills, regularly maintaining and fixing farm equipment. I also hold a Saskatchewan semi license.
I (Damaris), grew up in a small village in Germany and first came to Canada in 2020 for a year of Work and Travel. After that, I went to university for a Bachelor in International Business Management, specializing in HR and Accounting. As a child, we used to spend lots of time as a family, foraging for berries and mushrooms in the forest, and canning our own jam. I also enjoy cooking and baking.

What else ...
Our dream is to have a farm of our own, and this year is all about taking steps toward that goal. We have our own camper trailer and want to use this time to travel across Canada and experience different ways of farming. Every farm has its own unique approach, and we’re excited to learn from the hosts - picking up valuable tips and tricks, whether it’s about growing food, caring for animals, or making a homestead more self-sufficient. This gives us the perfect opportunity to experience different regions, communities, and ways of life—helping us figure out where we ultimately want to put down our roots.
For us, this journey is not just about work, but about building meaningful connections, expanding our knowledge, and finding the place that feels like home. We’re looking forward to all the experiences ahead and can’t wait to meet our future hosts along the way!
