We’re currently in Ireland for at least three months, exploring its cultural and natural treasures. We’re interested in learning skills in tourism and farming while continuing our online work.

  • Description

    Hello beautiful world!

We are a married couple around 40 years old who are able to enjoy the little things, handle situations without panicking, and even laugh at small misfortunes. We are extremely flexible and adaptable to real conditions and pragmatic.

    ** Who are we? **
David (Dave) grew up by the sea in Tuscany, where he used to free dive and help his carpenter father when he wasn't at school. He is a coffee connoisseur (espresso!), dreamed of becoming an astronaut but ended up enlisting in the army. Miriam calls him her spaniel because he is always ready for a walk or to eat something delicious. He watches endless history documentaries and also knows how to play chess! Despite appreciating rules to a certain extent, he is extremely friendly, has a lovely character, and is helpful and kind. His laugh is loud and adorable (obviously Miriam wrote this!).
Miriam (Marissa) grew up on a rural property in the northwest of the Alps, where she helped in the garden, harvested and preserved food with her family from a young age. She loves nature (herbs, animals, water!), drawing funny comics with markers, and practices yoga and Pilates. She has a degree in art history and museum studies and has worked as an educator and graphic designer, as well as occasionally as a waitress, pet sitter, warehouse worker, and writer. In short, she is not obsessed with the idea of advancing in a career. Everyone says she is kind, but occasionally she needs time alone to recharge and prefers to eat little and often (otherwise, she gets nervous, according to Dave!).

** Why do we do Helpx? **
Miriam is almost a veteran (active since 2018), and she involved David in this adventure after they got married. We see it as a slower, less touristy, and less expensive way to travel. We believe that experiences like this should not be limited to a gap year in your twenties but should last over time and involve couples, families, retirees, etc.
We travel to learn, observe, gain different perspectives, and understand how to make our lives fuller and more satisfying by doing something useful and stepping out of our comfort zone to rediscover ourselves.

** What can we do? **
    More specifically:
David: can prepare meat and fish (from tenderizing meat to grilling), do small carpentry work, do decoration work (painting objects, houses, etc.), and handle computers.
Miriam: can take care of animals (including applying creams to horses and combing dogs that hate being combed), cook (especially risottos and soups), and organize (she is extremely minimalist and organized), teaching art and italian.

** What do we like? **
Reading (history books for David, art essays and poetry for Miriam), traveling to get to know places and local cultures well, eating good and well-cooked food (and trying to make equally good dishes), old Hollywood movies (Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, Katherine Hepburn, etc.). We do not like crowds, chaos, and rudeness.

    ** Other useful information **
We both have a driver's license (no accidents; David also has a C license for driving trucks), a passport, and no criminal record. We do not smoke, drink alcohol only occasionally and in a very moderate and sober way, and of course, no drugs (including light ones). We are tolerant of others: we don't mind if you drink or use cannabis as long as you respect our personal space!
We have no major allergies or dietary restrictions that would prevent us from appreciating culinary diversity.
We are responsible towards people and others' properties, respect diversity, and are polite towards people, animals, and the planet.

We hope to hear from you soon!

    Bye, Miriam and David

More details about my language interests
We are both fascinated by learning foreign languages and enjoy immersing ourselves in different cultures. We are happy to share our native language, Italian, with anyone interested in learning it. Miriam has experience teaching Italian through art, both online and as a volunteer in the past, and enjoys creating engaging lessons tailored to the cultural interest of the students.
