  • Description

    Hello, I’m Maria.
For a couple of years I've been thinking of doing a gap year, and it's finally time to begin the journey. I am hoping to challenge my ways of thinking, get to know inspiring souls and experience various aspects of being a human! Workaway seems like such an opportunity to make new discoveries and fill out my artsy journal with memorable moments:) I’ve just finished my highschool education as a homeschooler, and I am considering psychology-related and alternative education-oriented pathway in the future. I try to stay curious every day and find new reasons to be in awe of all the beauty that surrounds me. I admire the vast array of surprising forms of nature, I am a lover of birds, dragonflies and autumns:) I’ve always enjoyed artsy activities and creativity, recently I try to be mindful with watercolors. Thanks to my mum reading has been my passion for years, and literature has been a source of inspiration throughout my life. I’d love to start a bookclub someday.
Since my first solo trip to Edinburgh last year, I learned there is so much to be gained from travels. They can be fuel for actions and an invitation to reflection. I truly believe that looking at the world’s beauty through other person’s eyes is such a wonderful tool. That’s why I hope to meet new people and discover new places - to be reminded of all kinds of beauty on Earth and to open my eyes wider!
I enjoy quiet time and coziness, but once in a while I love to get more adventurous and open up for new possibilities and fresh starts. I try to be an open-minded and to ignite interest in myself (even for the inconspicuous, seemingly “boring” things). It’s a dream of mine to write a book some day, and I thought that gap year travels are a beautiful opportunity to collect some inspiration for the piece - I hope it will encourage me to be more insightful throughout travels:)
As a pretty stick-to-the-plan person, I'd also like to experience the unexpectancy of a daily life through travels, and one of my favourite authors, J.R.R. Tolkien reminds me about that by his phrase: “You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
I can’t wait to make new discoveries and build enriching connections:)

For the last four years I've been gaining experience teaching 1:1 language classes. I had students that I teached english and one lady that I've been teaching italian. I am said to be a compassionate teacher, and I'd love to gain more experience in alternative education.
I prepare meals for my family and I'll be happy to share them with you too. Among my favourites are carrot soup, pasta alla norma and swedish kardemummabullar.
I've been volunteering at a local cinema-theatre welcoming guests. It gave me a chance to work with elderly people.
Being a homeschooler gave me an opportunity to enhance my organizational skills, responsibility and time management.
Throughout the years I've been searching for some ways to boost wellbeing, such as consistent journaling, yoga and nature drawing - I'll be happy to share some of my findings:)
