  • Description

Hi! We are Maria and Joseph. We are curious, compassionate, and hard-working travelers. We have spent the last 2 years living and working in 20 countries across 5 continents. Currently, we reside in Nelson, NZ, on a one-year Working Holiday Visa. We've loved living in the Marlborough area, but we joined WorkAway because we are excited to spend the month of October near Christchurch! We own a vehicle, so we are open to any opportunities within driving distance to the city.

We both have 2 years of experience working on family-owned vegetable farms in the Midwest of the United States. Joseph has 5 years of professional experience in horticulture and arboriculture. Maria has a master's degree in Anthropology with years spent working outside on archaeological expeditions.

We come from a large family where our many nieces and nephews are a major part of our lives. We each have experience working professionally with children via a program called Americorps, where we specialized in working with kids ages 10-18.

We are motivated by kindness, social connection, and a sense of community through shared work and experiences.

  • What else ...

We are both big readers! We love a good story and spend much of our free time listening to audiobooks or getting lost behind the pages of a great novel.

Joseph is a highly skilled and experienced hiker with many epic stories of adventures in the wilderness. He has detailed knowledge of all types of plants and animals across the globe.

Maria is an excellent cook and enjoys creating flavorful and nutritious meals.

We both enjoy sharing meals, telling stories, connecting with new people, and spending time outside. We are both open-hearted and curious people who love making life feel meaningful for ourselves and those around us.
