  • Description

Hi! My name is Madeleine (most people call me Maddy).

I am passionate about art, community, mental wellbeing and being active in nature.

I enjoy creating art and crafting (mainly drawing, painting, zine-making). I have a background in Filmmaking and currently utilise my creative skills within the small business I work for, doing content creation. I'm hoping to branch out soon and make some mini-documentaries for the local businesses I know. I think it's important that smaller businesses voices are heard; particularly when their products are unique, create a positive impact and are environmentally friendly. I also sell my art work in the shop I work in; In particular prints, colouring books and zines.

I feel passionate about being an active part of the community; I love meeting new people and hearing their stories, and learning their personalities. I like to think I've always been a 'people person' (I inherited that from my mum..) This works out well for my job - I manage an eco-friendly shop; we make vegan skincare and sell goods made by local people. I'm quite well known in the community and I really enjoy the social, customer service aspect of my job.

I spend a good portion of my time in nature and being physical; I'm an avid wild swimmer - a love of the water runs in my family. I also enjoy running and keeping fit - I like to hike and enjoy going for runs with my friends. I love animals (particularly dogs!). I worked at a city farm in Bristol for a little while, and loved working outside and around the animals. (particularly a very funny little goat called Pip).

My current motivation is to explore working in other countries; essentially I just want to learn new things, gain more experience in different jobs, and experiences other cultures.

  • More details about your skills

My skills include the following; working well with animals, working well with children (particularly children with additional needs), experience set building and working with power tools, experience of site management and cleaning, working with the community and in hospitality, remaining calm in busy and high-pressure situations. I also am apt in website building; using Shopify and Wix, social media creation and creating content using Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Canva. Overall, I feel I excel in motivation. Whatever job I do, I try and do it to the best of my abilities.

To break down the above paragraph a little more for your ease, I've had a number of experiences that have given me different skills. For the creative aspects; as mentioned in my description, I completed a degree in Filmmaking (specialising in production design). This has given me experience in set building and designing, using power tools, working and communicating well in a team, and team-leading. Our final film (named 'Disco Dynamite', a love story with a roller skating theme) received multiple nominations and awards within UK-based film festivals. I've always dabbled in side work, such as content creation work for local businesses; primarily using editing software like photoshop and premiere pro. I have created art works for local schools, led art groups for children fleeing from Ukraine and briefly ran my own art & mental health support group, based in Reading.

After university, I was a member of the site crew for Bristol City Farm; a wonderful little working farm. I would work alongside the farm hands and maintenance team: helping out setting up rooms for community groups, herd and check on the animals (pigs, goats, ducks, sheep), helping the public and engaging in any necessary site maintenance jobs (cleaning, flagging issues, fixing things etc.) It was physically demanding, cleaning a whole site in a short amount of time but I quite enjoyed this aspect of the job. I'm a quick learner who is happy to get stuck in. I don't mind getting messy and I enjoy being physical.

Currently, I'm working for a small business called NOOD Stores; I run an eco-friendly shop, in which we make our own vegan skincare and sell local peoples wares. I manage the shop, so am in charge of multiple staff, ordering for the shop and liaising with our stockists. I also set up workshops to be run within the store, which means working with other local entrepreneurs. I love engaging with people, and enjoy the organisational aspect of running a business.

I've also had a keen interest in working with people; I worked with my local Arts Centre and supported the 'Move Up' group; leading adults with physical and learning disabilities to create art projects. During this time, I also worked across 2 classrooms at a primary school, supporting and eventually teaching (as a Special Educational Needs Practitioner). I worked with children with autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD and more. I honestly LOVED this job. Growing up with an uncle with disabilities, I find understanding and communicating with people with additional needs natural and easy.

Physically, I am strong, fit and healthy. I enjoy working and always have. I'm happy to get stuck in to most jobs and I feel I am good at improvising when necessary.

  • What else ...

I absolutely love films. I have a pretty big knowledge of cinema and i'm always trying to actively grow it. I started a film club with my friend which has been brilliant! we watch films regularly and discuss them.

I also love swimming and am desperate to get into free diving! Growing up, my dad was quite an action man. He entered spear fishing competitions and did a lot of free diving around the English Coast. I feel inspired by him for my love of water. We often go out canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. I've done a few river clean ups on my paddle board (tidying up and recycling litter we find in the river).
