Description
Howdy-hi! I share the same love of travel and learning that draws people to things like workaway. The more I travel, the more I feel the opposite of nostalgia- I get a longing for a future that doesn't exist yet. New experiences give me new building-blocks and strategies for community building. Mind, I haven't a master plan or anything like that, but there is a general outline. Last spring I decided to take a gap year before joining the Peace Corps. Since then, I did some WWOOFing, went to Thailand with some friends, took a summer gig on a research vessel in the Great Lakes, and now I'm juggling volunteering with taking an online course from the UNDP.
My hope for 2026 is to have the first half of it to be with workaway and then switch to sustainability development work in either Samoa or the Philippines. I'd like to stay with a family or two in a place that allows me to give to the community I am in and has strong enough wifi that I can take a few more courses on permaculture and sustainable development. And then when I get back from the PC I will through hike the Appalachian Trail.
Personality wise, I'm only quiet on the surface. Friends have described me as the emotional support animal to other animals. My last roommate told me that I am like cat software running on human hardware. Strangers have started telling me their life stories. About once a month I have a really wholesome interaction with a stranger, usually elderly, that restores my faith inhumanity. Info-dumping and acts of service are my primary expressive love languages. I used to be both a theatre kid and a camp counselor. Exploring nature and cultures gives me the sense of wonder that I feel most at home in. -

More details about your skills
A few years of work doing trail maintenance and habitat restoration. Basic carpentry/construction. A very writing and literature focused education before college, so I'd be good at tutoring in those. Also would be able to tutor in math, science, geography, and 20th century history. I have an MS in Environmental Science with a focus on freshwater ecology. Very good with the crafts part of arts and crafts. Can teach how to crochet. I have experience in gardening and farming. Capable of doing very repetitive tasks while maintaining quality control.

What else ...
I am trying to learn the banjolele
I am on a quest to read a book from every country
I learn best if I am shown how to do something at least twice ( the first time is to take it all in and the second time is when I will have more questions)
I am seeking a place that feels restorative and intentional instead of laid-back
I have some auditory issues; my brain is not great at filtering noise so I will ask you to repeat things if there are a lot of other noises, no need to shout -
