  • Description

Hi, my name is Lidia and I'm from Italy. After spending five years working in research at the Food Technology department of the University of Perugia (Italy), I moved to the Azores archipelago (Portugal). I went for a six months research project at the University of the Azores in São Miguel Island, and I ended up staying on the island for 6 years. I changed completely my life and I became an official tour guide of the Natural Parks of the Azores. I’m passionate about volcanoes, nature, hiking, photography, animals (I have two beautiful cats) and of course food. I really enjoy cooking for other people, sharing meal around the same table, while having nice and enriching conversations. I love going out and spending time with other people, going to concerts, to the teather and cinema, but sometimes I love spending time alone to recharge my batteries. I really enjoy exploring new places, learning about new cultures and languages, this is one of the things that makes me happy and motivates me.
Now, after more than six years in São Miguel, I feel it is time for me to discover and learn about a new place. I’m about to get a four months sabbatical leave, and I would love to spend part of this time doing a workaway experience. I don’t want to be a simple tourist, I would like to live in a new Country for a bit, meeting new people, learning new skills, learning as much as I can about the history, culture and nature.

  • More details about your skills

I have a master’s degree and a PhD in Food Technology, but like many others, my career path hasn’t been entirely straightforward. After spending five years working in research at the Food Technology department of the University of Perugia (Italy), I moved to the Azores archipelago (Portugal) and I became an official tour guide of the Natural Parks of the Azores.

For many years I worked as a waiter to support my studies. When I moved to Azores, before becoming a tour guide, I worked in the Hostel "Out of The Blue" for about ten months cooking for the family dinners of the hostel. I'm not a chef, but I like cooking and I love to learn new recipes. For the same hostel, in the last five years, I've been working as a tour guide. I design, plan and lead hiking and van tours for the guests of the hostel. I also manage their social media account (Instagram and Facebook) as I have some photography and communication skills. I also have experience in farm work, since I grew up in countryside and my family have vineyards, I spent a lot of time helping my family during the grape harvest.
I'm pet owner and animal lover.
I love children and, although I have no experience babysitting as a job, I've gained some experience with my niece and my friend's children.
I speak Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and English.
I’m flexible, adaptable, friendly, patience and trustworthy; I like team work and I’ve strong commitment. I’m hard worker and if there is something I never did before, I can learn it.
