I live and work in London. I was born and raised in Kurdistan and I’m now a proud British citizen. I’m a journalist, and after years in the city, I’ve learned that what truly brings me happiness is nature, calm, and meaningful human connection.

Wherever I’ve lived — even with the smallest balcony — I’ve always grown plants, especially vegetables. It keeps me connected to the earth. I feel most at home in simple, sustainable environments and around people who care for their land.

I travel slowly, not in the rushed “see everything in a week” style. I prefer joining a person or family, helping on their farm, picking fruit, and learning their way of life.

Important:
I’m more comfortable in disciplined, family‑based, culturally grounded environments where I can learn real traditions and daily life. I’m not the right fit for heavy construction projects or stable work, and it’s usually better for hosts to hire someone specifically for those tasks. I also prefer not to stay in places with “free‑spirit” or hippy‑style communities that reject traditional values or struggle to provide a simple, organized accommodation for Workawayers. I am not supposed to camp in a tent for two weeks!

I usually travel solo (sometimes with friends), and I’m sociable and easygoing. I’d love to join a warm, nature‑focused home. I also enjoy building real friendships — and if hosts ever visit London, I’d be happy to welcome and host them as friends.

I have experience with gardening and caring for plants, especially vegetables. Back in my hometown we had a vineyard, so I feel very comfortable around this kind of farming and really enjoy it. I can help with most tasks on a farm, and I’m a fast learner — once you show me how something is done, I’ll do it well. I’m also quite handy, especially when I enjoy the company and the atmosphere.

I spent my Workaway stay with Mimmo and Margherita in Catania, Sicily in September 2026, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better first experience. They are incredibly kind, welcoming, and make you feel at home from the moment you arrive.
The daily routine was simple and enjoyable. I woke up around 7am, and by 8am we were already at the … read more farm together. We usually worked for about four hours, doing different projects: cutting bushes and moving them to the corner of the farm, clearing land, tidying up, and small DIY tasks like installing a net around the chicken area. The work was never tiring or overwhelming. It was more about care, dedication, and respect for the land and trees. They are passionate about organic farming, sustainability, and real permaculture, and I learned a lot just by working alongside them.
Around midday we’d head back home which is a 15 minutes drive. I’d take a shower, and then we’d have lunch together in their lovely Italian house. Their cooking was one of the highlights of my stay. The dishes were authentic, generous, and absolutely delicious. Sharing meals with them felt like being part of a real Sicilian family.
Communication was simple and smooth. Their English is basic, so with a bit of help from Google Translate, we understood each other perfectly. Language never felt like a barrier.
They also guided me through local Sicilian food, which I’m truly grateful for. Thanks to them, I tried proper Sicilian arancini, fresh lemon drinks, and ice cream that you simply won’t find better anywhere else.
After lunch, I was free to explore Sicily. Catania itself has so much to offer: beautiful seaside, great local food, and views of Mount Etna from almost every corner. Taormina is a short trip away with its stunning beach and town center. Famous Mount Etna is about an hour by bus. The family always offered guidance and local knowledge, which made exploring places even better.
We also shared plenty of cultural moments. They invited me to their dance class, and I joined them for a round of dancing. The whole community welcomed me warmly. It’s Italy after all.
My accommodation was a private studio flat downstairs. It was spacious, comfortable, and perfect for a single person or a couple. The location is fantastic, as it is a short walk to the city Centre, the central station, local buses, and even the beach.
If you want to experience an authentic Sicilian lifestyle, learn about organic farming and sustainability, and be part of a warm, genuine family, this is the place to be. This was my first Workaway, and I’m truly glad it was with Mimmo and Margherita. We became friends, and we stay in touch.
