Description
Hey Friends,
My name is Joe, I'm a traveller from England. I've mostly been living in New Zealand on and off for 10 years with stints in Spain, Germany, South America and Asia. Currently I'm back in Europe while my partner is finishing her PhD in marine science in New Zealand. Through her line of work studying Fjords and oceans, we are starting to look at Norway as a potentially viable place to put down some roots however, I now have residencia in Spain and would like to explore Northern Spain and Portugal too. I have decided not to go back to New Zealand this season (Nov 2026) and instead, spend my time and savings traveling Europe to explore new ways of life this side of the world where mine and my partners family are closer.
I have explored much of the world by bicycle through extended long distance bikepacking trips. Through this medium of travel I met my long term partner and soon to be wife, India. Although I mention India, I realise this is not a partner account and maintain this as my personal account for now, as I am using Workaway for my own explorations.
I am personally at a crossroads in my life. I'm 36 now and have had a long and interesting 15 years working in the arboriculture industry as a climbing arborist and business operator. I recently closed down my successful business in New Zealand with 3 staff members and all equipment, to start looking for a way of life in a place where I can live closer to nature, grow food, rear animals and live off the land. I have a broad practical skill set ranging from mechanics to forestry.
I am looking to connect with like minded people that live off-grid or rural, off the land, homeschooling their children and live a more simple way of life where food production, fresh water, community and connection to the land is what they value.
I don't hold any extreme views about politics, religion or any other racket going on in the world today. Just that at this stage in my life I want to learn a slower life in connection to nature.
I hope I can connect with he right people and offer a meaningful exchange. -
