We are Manuel and Sarah. We quit our jobs in Germany to live, work and travel in Canada for one year.
Sarah:
After school I was in New Zealand as an Au Pair for a year, which I really enjoyed. So I wanted to go abroad once again.
I grew up in a small town, in a house with a huge garden and a lot of animals around. I was raised with a hands-on mentality, because there was always a lot to do around the house, like mowing lawns, looking after our pets, even painting a whole house.
I love to learn new things and being creative.
Back in Germany I had many hobbies which ranged from crocheing to playing volleyball. I am very enthusiastic and when I do something, I try to be as efficient as possible. Typical German, I guess :)
I am very curios about my upcoming year in Canada and I hope to meet a lot of nice people, learn more about myself and find out what I want to do and be, once I am back in Germany.
Manuel:
I was looking for a change after working more than 7 years in the german industry.
So we came up with the brilliant idea to go to Canada with a work&travel visa.
Unfortunately I had to leave behind my volleyball team, chess club and volunteering in the local fire fighters for this opportunity.
I consider myself as a person who is interested in all kinds of things. A few of those examples are nature, environment, politics and generally how things work in detail.
As my english study is almost 10 years in the past I hope to develop my language skills and to do a lot of different things when it comes to work, because now I have the chance to give everything a try.
I hope these experiences will give me a lot of joy and comfort for the future.Interests

We guess we could teach some German, but we don't think we would be very good at it. We tried it with Sarahs english speaking brother in law. It might have helped a little bit. Learning a new language or improving our existing skills would be cool.Skills and knowledge we'd like to share or learn

Sarah:
I grew up with animals, I love them and I love to look after them. I used to look after our neighbors cats, when she was on holiday as a kid. I also was dogsitting quite a lot.
My dad is a professional painter and during Covid he showed me a lot of his tricks. We even painted a whole house together. Also I renovated my bathroom all by myself, doing the plumbing and everything. I am not saying I am an expert, but I have quite good manual skills and I think of myself as a fast learner.
At home I was responsioble for cutting the grass and sometimes the hedges. Basic work in the garden is no problem.
I also really enjoy assembling furniture if you could count that as a skill :)
Generally I am just a hands-on person, who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty.
Manuel:
I consider myself to be good in conversation, thats why it felt very easy for me to coach a volleyball team for 5 years.
With 8 years I joined our local chess club which I am still part of and I am a member of the local volunteer fire fighers. For both things I needed atleast a certain amount of teamplayer abilities.
When it comes to working skills, I have more than basic Carpenter skills.
Beeing a craftsman for such a long time helped my with private manuel working projects.
At work I also had to drive a big van loaded with fragile items, which required very good driving skills.
I also try to use my head first before just starting something.Age

The tasks changed every other day, so it never got boring.
Being able to choose when we want to start working, enabled us to have the afternoons for ourselves.
