Description
I retired from my work as a Biology Lab Assistant at our local College and now I plan to enjoy life by traveling as much as I can. I have a very active lifestyle and that aspect is always incorporated into my travels in the form of long and short distance hiking. I have walked several different routes of the Camino de Santiago in Spain, each time covering distances of 800+ kilometers. I met amazing people from all over the world and I am so grateful for how these encounters have enriched my life. During my first trip to Spain, I also volunteered with two WWOOF hosts and really enjoyed those experiences. I have been fortunate to be a volunteer in hostels in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala; Riohacha, Colombia, La Paz, Mexico, Santa Ana, El Salvador and helping out in a restaurant in Santa Cruz, Chile. I hope to secure more volunteer positions in my upcoming travels. I love meeting other travelers and getting advice about new places to visit. I'm very interested in improving my Spanish and learning about new cultures by living and getting involved in a community. Besides hiking, cycling and running I also love gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting locals and learning about the area and also other travelers to hear of their experiences, which always gives me new ideas for my travels.

What else ...
During the fall and winter I like to spend about 2 - 3 months in in southern climates to avoid our freezing winter temperatures. This would allow me to take a long term volunteer position if, after a trial posting, the fit was right for both the host and myself. A longer term post would allow afford me the opportunity to continue to study Spanish and achieve my goal of becoming bilingual.

We loved having her.
The fact that she’s fluent in Spanish was an extra plus.
Santa Cruz is a lovely little town that is easy to get around in with a nice moderate climate. Of course being in the Colchagua wine region is a great bonus and my host was able to arrange 3 wine tours while I was there. I learned alot about … read more
