  • Description

Hi, I'm Giulia, I'm 24 years old and I'm in my second year of university studying Social Work to become an educator. In my free time, besides studying, I play volleyball and read a lot. I decided to join WorkAway to have the opportunity to gain new experiences, especially in the field of social work and education, combining quality experiences with a student budget! I'm also very excited to test myself and my skills, as well as improving my English and Spanish and (maybe) learning new languages!

  • More details about your skills

I completed my secondary education with a federal diploma in Switzerland. Afterwards, I decided to pursue my passion and study to become a social educator so that I could work in various fields, from elderly care to childcare. Over the past three years, I have gained a variety of work experience, including two internships and two volunteer placements. I worked in a nursing home for almost a year and a half, organising entertainment and recreational activities during the day. I then did a school internship in a workshop for people with mental and psychological disabilities. Here I also learned various tasks, as I was mainly employed in the restaurant (as a waitress) and in housekeeping. As a volunteer, I worked and am still working in a summer day centre for children aged 3 to 7/8 years old, where I am mainly there to look after a child with autism spectrum disorder. I also spent a few days playing with children with both physical and mental disabilities at an association in my area. These experiences have definitely helped me to improve my patience and care towards others, which is essential if you want to work closely with other people. In addiction, I think I'm a very cheerful person and I like to smile and laugh with others, even when times are tough. In terms of more ‘practical’ skills, I can mention housekeeping, as I have lived alone for several months, as well as knowing how to cook basic dishes.

  • What else ...

I've always played volleyball in my life and I'm really in love with this sport! In my free time I love also reading books and news about the world. I really like to make creative crafts and in my past job with elderly people I've done a lot of this type of things. I'm in love with the coloured things in particular and I've also changed the look of the retirement home with drawings, posters and easy crafts.
