  • Description

It's the loved ones in my life.
The people that make me smile everyday.
I think that's what keeps me going. Above anything else.
I do love my guitar, cooking food with my family and spending lots of time in precious places such as the hills and the coast. It really means a lot to me.
Time to myself is very important - To slow down a little and appreciate all the things in between.
I think the main reason why I am looking for voluntary work is simply because I love the act of helping others. The beauty of teamwork. The experience I have had with some surf coaching and giving street dance lessons gives me a very warm feeling inside, which is why I am always chasing similar opportunities.

I currently volunteer with a charity called The Wave Project where we teach disadvanatged kids how to surf and just try to create a safe space in general to try and put their minds into a happier state. I have loved every single minute of it. There is no better feeling than seeing a student get their first wave and watching their eyes bulge with excitement as they roll towards the shore.
Although I am not a qualified surf instructor, I have recently completed and passed a beach life saving course through a surf life saving club in my local area, with an aim to get a better understanding of the ocean as well as learning all the precautions and procedures required to save someones life at sea.
In November last year I volunteered at a charity called the refugee community kitchen, cooking food for the homeless and refugees in Calais, France. The concept is quite simple. To quote, "we chop, we stir, we serve".
I just try my best to give a helping hand and make peoples lives just that little bit better, even if it is helping them catch that first wave or providing them with a hot meal.

I am willing to work hard and I would think of myself as a good team player. Working in a local seafood takaway allowed me to help prepare meals as well as take orders from the hundreds of customers that would arrive on a daily basis. On top of this I also really enjoy food preparation and cooking meals in my own family home. Family meals are very important to me. The communal aspect you get whilst sitting around the table is the best part of the whole process.
I have also worked at various cafes, which again involved various duties such as making coffees, taking orders, food preparation and cleaning. It's amazing the amount of different people you meet.

I fell in love with Art in school and have a place to study Art and Design in Dundee, Scotland. I find that I particularly enjoy physical craft. Making prototype models of buildings for my architectural studies and making ridiculous hat designs. I would spend hours in the wood workshop learning how to cut, shape, and sand wood.
My interested in art aslo led me to create my own short films and create Dj sets for local art exhibitions.

I am an avid dancer and have taught breakdance classes to young students throughout my time at school. This really was a life changing experience for me, as it gave me empathy and understanding of how other people think. Being able to inspire them through dance and movement was really inspiring.
Throughout the years I have also performed in multiple showcases, as well as creating films and photography in collaboration with art collective Room8 studios, who work with exluded communitites.
I also cut my partners hair in lockdown, repainted my entire room and spray painted 30 wooden poles at a festival.

  • What else ...

I think it's very important for people to dedicate a few minutes everyday on reflection. Acknowledging the day. The positives. The negatives. I like to notice how I felt today compared to yesterday. Think about the interesting things I saw, smelled, tasted.
