We are currently in Sardinia until the end of March. We found a project in Slovenia until the end of April, now looking for more in Bosnia and Macedonia in May.

Hello!

We are currently in Sardinia until the end of March. After that we will be looking for a project in Slovenia for the second half of April.

We are an Italian-Bulgarian couple that has been living in Bulgaria for six years. We just got married and finished renovating our apartment in Veliko Tarnovo. After working in front of the screen for three years, we want to take a new direction and explore different ways of living.

We are trying to live as zero-waste as possible and buy only local products. Our efforts are pointed at building a sustainable life and relying on our skills to upcycle and repair rather than buy, cook from scratch and enjoy simple things. As for clothes, we only shop second-hand :)

Fabio is from Sardinia, where he grew up, and is passionate about Sardinian culture and language. He graduated from a Fine Arts Academy in Italy and then moved to Bulgaria for a volunteering project. We met during his project and have been living together ever since.

Maria grew up in Bulgaria and has travelled around the country a lot. She participated in a student volunteering project in Hungary for two months, worked in the United States for one summer, and studied for one semester in France as an Erasmus exchange student.

So far, almost all projects we joined included farm work, gardening, animal care and DIY. We also spent a month in the French Pyrinees making bread, and three weeks in Morocco teaching English.

Maria has worked as a language teacher and a translator, but during our Workaway would like to focus on gardening and manual skills. She has been practising yoga for years and would love a yoga buddy.

Fabio has experience working with volunteers, as well as photography, video and graphic design projects. He has also worked in a bakery and would love to learn new ways of making bread. We can prepare homemade pasta too!

Maria plays guitar and will be happy to share her favourite songs around the campfire. Fabio is a juggler, and if you host us, you will see him practising around.

Staying here was a great first Workaway experience for us! It was very important for us to start our journey on the right foot, and we are happy that we lived in such a hospitable, friendly and special environment.

We spent three lovely weeks there, along with two other volunteers, and from the first days we already felt part of the community.… read more Everything was organised well, so we knew our routine, we knew our tasks, and what was happening in every hour of the day. We ate our breakfast at 08:00, followed by some dancing at music that we took turns to choose, and then worked from 09:00 until 13:00. In the afternoon we worked only two or three days a week for about two hours. The weekly schedule was always determined in the weekend before. Gerd and Carolina were always working either together with us or on other things around the house or the garden, and were available to help at any time, making sure we are okay.

We were there during the second half of September, so we spent our time picking vegetables and hazelnuts, cleaning garden beds, building dry stone walls and helping with a wooden construction.

Every volunteer was having an independant house to sleep, and we were eating all our meals together outside or in the winter garden. However, the kitchen, office and living room in the main house were available to us if needed. Carolina cooked amazing dishes, always fresh from the garden. It was so interesting how they are organising their food, so that nothing goes to waste!

In the weekends we were free, and we went to explore the nearby villages. We did not meet many people, but plenty of pigs, cows, goats, donkeys, horses and dogs walking freely on the streets, all being very friendly and just calmly minding their own business. One day Carolina and Gerd brought us to the beach and also showed us a nearby river where we could swim. It was very nice to walk around, but also there are so many nice areas to chill.

The electricity is only solar, but it was always enough for having the light and charge the phones, and on very sunny days also the laptop. However, technology was not a priority when you have such an amazing view! We often spent our evenings stargazing and watching the moon rising from behind the mountains.

We recommend staying here to anyone who is looking for a nicely organised project surrounded by breathtaking landscapes.
