Description
Hi! My name is Emma, I’m 25 years old and originally from Passau, a small town in Bavaria, Germany.
At the moment I’m studying architecture and currently spending a semester abroad in Rome after previously studying in Shanghai last semester. Before returning home, I would love to stay in Italy for the summer, improve my Italian and spend some time in a more rural environment again after living in large cities for quite a while.
I grew up close to nature and with horses. My family had a horse for 17 years, so being around animals and outdoor work has always been a normal part of life for me. After high school, I spent three months working on a farm in the USA where I helped with horses, hay harvest, gardening and everyday tasks around the house. I really enjoyed the physical work and the rhythm of daily life outdoors.
Over the past years I have lived and studied in different countries: Graz in Austria, Venice, Shanghai and now Rome. After finishing my bachelor’s degree, I also spent three months volunteering at a school in Tanzania with the Maasai community. These experiences made me very adaptable and comfortable in new environments and with different kinds of people.
As a person, I would describe myself as calm, reliable and independent. I enjoy spending time outside, going running, exploring places and learning languages. I also don’t mind spending time alone and usually adapt quite easily to different routines and lifestyles.
I have some experience working with people as well: I worked in an ice cream shop and also in wedding catering, so tourism or hospitality work would also be something I could imagine enjoying.
At the moment I’m taking a B2 Italian course. German is my native language, I speak fluent English and I can communicate well in Italian.
For this summer I’m mainly looking for a place where I can be part of everyday life, help where needed and spend some time closer to nature again — whether that is on a farm, with horses, in agriturismo or in tourism-related work.
Looking forward to meeting you :)

More details about your skills
I’m a curious and adaptable person and I generally enjoy learning through practical work and new environments. Over the years I’ve become used to adjusting quickly to different places, people and routines through studying and living abroad.
I already gained hands-on work experience during three months on a private family ranch in the USA after high school. The work there was very varied and included helping with horses, mucking out stables, hay harvest, gardening, driving trucks, running errands, preparing meals for a large family and helping around the house wherever needed. I actually liked the fact that every day was different and that the work was physical and connected to nature.
After my bachelor’s degree, I also spent three months volunteering at a Maasai school in Tanzania. Besides helping with everyday tasks around the school, we supported fundraising initiatives, social media and general organizational work. The experience taught me a lot about working in very different environments, improvising when necessary and being helpful wherever support was needed.
Alongside university, I also worked occasionally in wedding and event catering in Passau, where we organized receptions and events at different venues. Through this I became comfortable working with guests, staying organized in busy situations and helping in team-based environments.
I’m also comfortable with office work, computers and organizational tasks and could imagine helping in a small hotel or agriturismo reception as well. Since I study architecture, I also enjoy creative work, design and visual tasks.

What else ...
I'm well aware of the privilege I have as being born in one of the richest countries in the world. Confronted with the refugee crisis beginning in 2014 in Germany, I felt the need to volunteer in one of the many refugee homes in our city. Supporting them in finding their way around in our country and managing their daily routine, also teaching them German and Math, I gained valuable information and deep insights into different cultures and religious denominations outside of Europe.
