  • Description

I love the outdoors and being in nature. I love going for hikes and to the beach. I love to explore walking or jogging. I also like kayaking.

I love animals and I got to volunteer at a Wildlife Orphanage and Rescue Sanctuary in Zimbabwe for a month and work for the animals, helping to keep enclosures, troughs and feeders clean and preparing their food .

I was an exchange student twice in Germany and France, and I got to live in each for six months and learn the language and experience their cultures. I really wanted to understand and be able to talk to more people and hopefully find a common language to communicate with people I met!

In 2020, just before the pandemic began I went to Greece to volunteer and teach refugees and asylum seekers German and English. The NGO also helped distribute food, clothing and necessities to the students and their families. And there was also an offshoot project two women from Argentina created a course teaching women and girls all about aesthetics and doing nails while providing a safe space to open up and feel safe and seen and upon completion, received a certificate and could work and gain a little financial independence oftentimes for the first time.
When I arrived I helped to create their classroom, painting and preparing their beauty space where classes and meetings would take place.

  • More details about your skills

I speak English, Irish, German, French, and conversational Spanish and Russian.
I got to teach both kids and adults German and English at an NGO in Greece and helping to distribute food, clothes and other basics like diapers, wipes and soap to refugees and asylum seekers, our students and their families. And helping to prepare a classroom for a new course, helping to paint the room, and prepare the space for a nail and aesthetics course.

I also volunteered at a Wildlife Orphanage and Rescue Sanctuary in Zimbabwe for one month where I got to work for the animals, keeping their enclosures, feeders, and water troughs clean, preparing their food, bottle feeding orphaned lambs 4x a day to reading to an orphan baboon to try and reduce his stress in his new environment, to making and painting small houses from scraps of wood for owls, and hauling hay bales, preparing the carnivores food whereby an animal was donated to the sanctuary and we would have to prepare it for all the lions, the jackal, the big cats and fox in residence, and helping move sheep and goats from one enclosure to another or to a paddock and general animal welfare check ups.

I also got to be a puppy fosterer for a charity that provides autism assistance dogs to children with autism. Getting to be their primary care giver and introducing them to the world and having all their firsts be positive first time experiences like first train ride, mall, going in a lift, car rides, vet visit and also helping them with their basic training and potty training and adjusting to the world and getting used to all the sounds that the world makes like cars on roads, incoming trains, hairdryers, settling into the atmosphere of a cafe or store or supermarket or post office. I have fostered 5 su-paw-heroes so far, some just temporarily providing R&R for a month or so , two came as they were experiencing their first season in heat and needed to be safe(boy free and secure garden) ,chill and still get to go to beaches and the woods and all the fun adventures but also get the only child/ dog treatment , one on one or recovering from an injury and again needing to get some rest and not have other dog siblings in their homes unintentionally exacerbating injuries.

I’m also interested in learning more about gardening and growing food! I live in a pretty wet and windy climate so it can be a little challenging for things to survive but last year I managed to grow kale, lots of arugula, butter lettuce and exactly 7strawberries! I grew broccoli and things were growing great until a caterpillar infestation decimated all of the broccoli I grew so it never actually became heads of broccoli! Maybe they needed it more than me! I’d love to learn about organic farming, and how not to completely lose to the caterpillars.
