Hello,

my name is Andreas, I am 54 years old and a social education worker. Three years ago I quit my job at the district office and worked for11/2 years as an all-rounder (all tasks that arise) at an alpine lodge. The last six months I worked in the service (bar, food and drink delivery and cashier when needed) and also as an allrounder (all the work that arises such as making wood, shoveling snow, cleaning, shopping,small repairs, etc.) in a guesthouse in a skiing area. Years ago I worked for one season on a large Swiss alpine cottage with cows and pigs (bringing cows into the barn, milking, mucking out stables, helping with the cheese production...).

I spend my free time traveling, reading, hiking, biking, ski touring and occasionally climbing. That means I like spending a lot of time in the mountains. My wife and I enjoy cooking and baking and we live in a house with a large garden. Neither of us has any manual training, but we laid hands on our wood-frame-structure house for over 9 months and learned a lot about handcraft and setting a garden.

My wife and I quit our jobs to have more time for traveling. I myself have no experience with workaway, a friend of us gave us the idea to work for board and lodging. I think it would be interesting to try out new work or to contribute my own skills and to get in touch with people from the host country and with other workawayers.

ich heiße Andreas, bin 54 Jahre alt und von Beruf Sozialpädagoge. Vor drei Jahren habe ich meine Arbeitsstelle im Landratsamt gekündigt und 11/2 Jahre als Allrounder (alle anfallenden Tätigkeiten) auf einer Alpenvereinshütte gearbeitet. Das letzte ½ Jahr war ich im Service (Bar, Essen und Getränke austragen und bei Bedarf kassieren) und auch als Allrounder (alle anfallenden Arbeiten wie Holz machen, Schneeschippen bzw. wegfräsen, putzen, Einkaufen,kleine Reparaturen, etc.) in einem Gasthaus im Skigebiet tätig Im Jahre 2000 arbeitete ich eine Saison lang auf einer großen schweizer Alp als Zusenn (Kühe in den Stall treiben, melken, Stall misten und Hilfe bei der Käseproduktion).

Meine Freizeit verbringen ich mit reisen, lesen, wandern, radfahren, Skitouren gehen und gelegentlichem Klettern. Das heißt, ich verbringen gerne und viel Zeit in den Bergen. Meine Frau und ich kochen und backen gerne und leben in einem Haus mit großem Garten. Wir beide haben keine handwerkliche Ausbildung, legten aber bei unserem Hausbau, der in Holzständerbauweise errichtet wurde, über ein 3/4 Jahr selbst Hand an.

Meine Frau und ich haben unsere Arbeit gekündigt um mehr Zeit für das Reisen zu haben. Ich selber habe noch keine Erfahrung mit Workaway, auf die Idee, unterwegs gegen Kost und Logie zu arbeiten, brachte uns ein Freund. Ich stelle es mir interessant vor, unterwegs neue Arbeiten auszuprobieren oder eigene Fähigkeiten einzubringen und dabei mit Leuten des Gastlandes und, je nach Stelle, mit anderen Workaways in Kontakt zu kommen.

I am Christa and 51 years old. I am a social education worker and for many years Iworked in a home for children and adolescents and also in a local school as a pedagogical assistant. When our children went their own ways, my husband and I had the opportunity to try out something new, independent of the children.
Our new challenge was to live and work in a hut in the mountains. We found a job at an all year-round hut with accommodation for about 60 guests, which was only accessible on foot. My work consisted of preparing meals, baking cakes and bread, washing up ... preparing the beds and rooms and keeping the hut clean.
After this work we took time to travel with our campervan and worked again during winter in restaurant in a winter resort. There again, my main field of activity was the kitchen and all other arising household chores.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, baking, being outside with the family dog, biking, hiking, skiing and cross-country skiing in the winter. Since we have a large property, chores always occur there and we enjoy working and being outside in the countryside.
Now we want to get back to traveling, but also take the opportunity to visit work away hosts to help out. As a teenager I have been to several WWOOF farms and have always found living and working abroad enriching. Getting to know a country, its people and culture by working on a work away place sounds like a a good opportunity and I am excited about the many offers that are available worldwide.

ich bin Christa und 51 Jahre alt. Von Beruf bin ich Sozialpädagogin und ich arbeitete lange Jahre in einem Heim für Kinder und Jugendliche und in einer Schule als Pädagogische Assistentin. Als unsere Kinder ihre eigenen Wege gingen, bot sich für meinen Mann und mich die Gelgegenheit, unabhängig von den Kindern etwas Neues auszuprobieren.
Unsere neue Herausforderung sollte eine DAV Hütte in den Bergen sein. Wir fanden eine Arbeit auf einer Ganzjahreshütte mit Übernachtung für ca 60 Gäste, die nur zu Fuss erreichbar war. Meine Arbeit bestand im Zubereiten von Speisen, Backen von Kuchen und Brot, Spülen … Herrichten der Betten und Zimmer und dem Sauberhalten der Hütte.
Nach dieser Arbeit nahmen wir uns Zeit zum Reisen (mit unserem Womo) und arbeiteten dann erneut in der Gastronomie in einem Wintersportort. Auch dort war mein Hauptbetätigungsfeld die Küche und alle andere anfallenden Hausarbeiten.
In meiner Freizeit beschäftige ich mich gerne mit lesen, kochen, backen, mit dem Familienhund draußen sein, radfahren, wandern und im Winter mit Ski- und Langlaufskiern unterwegs sein. Da wir einen großen Garten haben, fallen dort immer wieder Arbeiten an und wir genießen die Möglichkeit, auf dem Land viel draußen sein zu können.
Jetzt wollen wir wieder reisend unterwegs sein, aber auch die Gelegenheit wahrnehmen, Work away hosts aufzusuchen um dort mitzuarbeiten. Als Jugendliche war ich mehrmals auf WWOOF Farmen und habe das Leben und Arbeiten im Ausland stets als Bereicherung wahrgenommen. Das Kennenlernen eines Landes, deren Menschen und Kultur durch die Mitarbeit auf einer Work away Stelle stelle ich mir als gute Möglichkeit vor und bin begeistert von den vielen Angeboten, die es weltweit gibt.
