Hi lovely people!

My name is Annelies, I'm 28 years old and I currently live in Belgium. I grew up reading loads, ice skating and I spent most summers hiking in the Austrian Alps. I studied English and Dutch linguistics and literature and I also got my master's in education. I have been teaching 'Brusselse ketjes' (really cool -according to my students- lingo for teenagers in Brussels 😉) for the past 4 years and I love it! I have lived in Ireland and Australia, got to know the culture, the locals, the cuisine, the new scenery and I loved making new friends from all over the world. I love what I do now, but recently I've wanted to explore this beautiful earth again, travel more slowly, and Workaway seems a cool, authentic and enriching way to do so.

In my spare time I love to hike, crochet, go for morning runs, go climbing and I've recently picked up yoga (late to the game, I know). I like the outdoors, mountains and spending quality time out in nature. I'm planning on travelling in South America from September onwards and I would like to travel all throughout the Andes.

I'm very excited to travel and make new memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Languages (specifically Dutch and English) and a Master's in Education. I have been teaching Dutch and English in a secondary school in Brussels for the last 4 years. Dutch is my native language and I know English near-native level. I also know French and a little bit of German. I've started learning Spanish for my upcoming trip to South America, so I'm hoping to improve while I'm there!

I have experience in teaching and organising small events for teenagers. I was a leader in the youth movement in Belgium (Chiro), so in that area I have experience, too.
Since my skills are more on the academic side, I would love to explore and learn more practical, hands-on skills. I am quite the DIYer, but I would love to expand my knowledge on gardening, farm-life and eco-conscious living. I'm a fast learner, creative, enthusiastic and positive and I don't mind getting my hands dirty.
