  • Description

    Hi, my name is Anisha!

After finishing a masters in Animal Welfare a few years ago, I have worked as a kennel assistant for Guide Dogs and as a vet receptionist, but am now taking a bit of a career break. I am hoping to gain more practical experience with different animals in a wide range of contexts to help me decide on where to take my career next, and would love to see more of the world whilst doing this. I am especially interested in gaining experience with farm animals, as I have not had many chances to do so yet. I have participated in a workaway on a croft that had sheep, chickens and horses, so do have some knowledge about caring for these animals on a small scale and would love to expand on this.

I can be a bit quiet when I'm first in a new place, but it doesn't take me long to settle in and start sharing terrible jokes!

I'm reasonably easy going and happy to go with the flow, but am very good at planning and time management. Previous employers have always remarked on my good work ethic, ability to pick things up quickly, and how I take initiative to complete tasks other than those I have been set.

My happy place is somewhere in beautiful nature with a good book and an animal companion.

I love learning new things and trying new activities, and am always up for a challenge!

  • More details about your skills

I have completed an MSc in Animal Welfare so have some theoretical knowledge on animal care. I have also grown up with pets (hamsters, rabbits, cats and dogs) so have practical experience in looking after animals. My previous workaways have enabled me to increase my experience with dogs, as well as to gain experience caring for animals I previously had little to no experience with (horses, donkeys, mules, sheep, chickens, and ducks).
Growing up I also attended horse riding, including some treks when on holidays. Although it has been a while since I have been around horses I'm sure I could pick everything back up quickly!

I was a waitress for 3.5 years, and a catering assistant for 1.5 years, so have well developed customer service skills. Through these I also developed my team-working skills, including leadership as I was head waitress for a large part of my time at that job. I also have experience working in housekeeping.

I'm reasonably good at assembling flat pack, and have helped my Dad with various DIY projects my whole life. My most recent household project was painting the garden shed.

Whenever I am home I enjoy helping my mum with the gardening - mainly in the form of picking fruit and veg, weeding, and digging new beds. I am also nearing the end of a month of volunteering at a wolf sanctuary in Portugal where one of the main tasks I helped carry out was clearing vegetation around the sanctuary for maintenance, removing invasive species, and fire prevention. This has helped to build my gardening skills as it was the first time I have worked with plants on a large scale and with tools such as scythes and hoes.

Baking is one of my favourite hobbies, and I love sharing my baking with others. I'm always up for trying new recipes (even if they don't always turn out great!)

Photography is another hobby, and my way of taking time to properly appreciate nature and practice mindfulness.

    Admin and general computer skills.
