Hey there!!

We are Mira and Sawyer, a newly engaged couple who met in Portland, Oregon. We are incredibly social, responsible, and generally light-hearted and fun loving folks :) We love meeting new people and are confident that together and individually we have lots to offer and would be a great addition to any team.

Mira: I am originally from Philadelphia, PA where I lived until 2019 when I graduated from school and first became a workawayer. I backpacked and worked in Iceland, the UK, Hungary, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Luckily my trip was not cut short and I was able to travel for 9 months before returning to the US during the week of covid lockdown. Shortly after, I moved across the country to Portland where I discovered my love of fitness (I work as a personal trainer) and I met my fiancée, Sawyer! I would love to organize workouts, hikes, outdoor activities, etc. I have years of customer service and hospitality experience including various roles at hostels, eco-resorts and restaurants.

Sawyer: I am originally from Los Angeles, California and have been living in Portland for about 6 years. I spent two years in Florence, Italy for college and that lit a fire in me to see the world! I am a very passionate and sensitive person who loves deeply and truly, and am very community oriented. My passions mostly revolve around, but aren't limited to, creating. I am an artist mainly utilizing the drawing technique of pointillism. I am also involved with a number of writing projects including a horror movie and a comedy show. Cooking is another way I love to express my creativity and have done professionally. I love creating fun bold flavors with my food, and even more, I love sharing the final product with my loved ones. My goal is to be able to work full-time as a creative whether that involves art, writing, or cooking. I pride myself in my strong work ethic. Whatever I am tasked with, I do with my whole heart always to the best of my ability. If i have an opportunity to learn a new skill and challenge myself, I never hesitate!

I spent 3 beautiful weeks here and I had an amazing time. It is one of the most stunning and secluded beaches I’ve ever been to and we had plenty of time when we were off to swim, chill in the hammocks, watch the sunset, etc. The volunteer food was delicious and plentiful and I made many good friends here. So... I left this morning but I wanted to write this with everything fresh in my mind. Jean and Godfrey are two of the most lovely hosts you could ever ask for. They are so incredibly generous and they made me feel at home as soon as I walked in the door. I stayed for nearly 8 weeks and the time flew. Just as advertised, the location is remote;… read more however, Jean and Godfrey really make an effort to take you out and get you to the train to explore on your days off which was so appreciated. I must say though, you will be staying in an absolutely gorgeous part of the country, unlike any place I have been before. Picture-perfect English countryside just as I imagined.
The work is not difficult or too much. The key is attention to detail (!!!) as Jean likes things done in a certain way, for good reason. Something I had to learn is to not take things personally when Jean corrects something you've done or wants it done differently/better. She knows what she's talking about and only wants you to know as well!
Now, the dogs. I MISS THEM ALREADY! Truly these are some of the best dogs I have ever met, if not THE best. It doesn't take long to get to know their individual personalities and each of their unique qualities. It is so clear these dogs mean the world to Jean and Godfrey and at the end of the day, the most important thing is taking good care of them and giving them the love they deserve.
Dog shows, delicious meals at home and out, water aerobics (don't forget to tell Matthew(?) I say hi), stunning daily/nightly walks along the reservoir and up on the moor....too many amazing things to even count. This was my first time being around dogs in this capacity so everything was new to me, and Jean and Godfrey were so patient with me and helpful whenever I had any questions. I have learned so much about the dog world, both on the show and working sides, and let me tell you...it is fascinating. Their enthusiasm and passion for this industry is undeniable. Jean was even so kind as to help me find my next host in the UK (also in the dog world) once I left, which I am so grateful for.
I will miss the hilarious banter between Jean and Godfrey (aww the lovebirds) and the advice and lessons I have learned from them along the way. On a working level and on a personal level, I feel more aware and confident than I did before. I am so happy to have had this experience and I can't wait to see you again soon!! xx
