A mountain lodge that can sleep 35-40 guests, plus has walk in traffic (mostly locals) in the restaurant. We are located 20 minutes by car from Antigua, Guatemala in a small village called El Hato. We have a full restaurant and bar, we are very well known for our home cooking (largely vegetarian) and we boast one of the best volcano views in Guatemala. People come here to enjoy nature, hike, relax in a hammock, eat amazing food, and escape from the city. About 50% of our guests are Guatemalan, so speaking Spanish is an important skill to have. We have had yoga classes for years, but have recently completed construction on a large enclosed yoga studio, and offer classes twice a day (when possible) to guests and walk ins.
Helping with Tourists
Helpers can practice their Spanish everyday plus learn from other travelers and local staff about where to go and travel. We employ 15 local workers in the kitchen and hotel grounds, so volunteers can chat with them during their stay. We also help support the local school with supplies, and financial assistance for infrastructure projects.
RECEPTION VOLUNTEER NEEDED!! MUST ALREADY BE IN GUATEMALA, AS OUR BORDERS ARE STILL CLOSED!
Reception helpers should have a social and flexible personality, be at least 21 years old, have good communication skills in English and and at least an intermediate level of Spanish (not negotiable, sorry!!) , have customer service experience, and be able to take initiative. Helpers get a free room , free food and internet and cheap drinks plus a share of tips each month. Duties include doing bills and inventory, checking guests in and out, taking reservations via phone and email, and socializing with guests in the evening. Helpers should be comfortable working in a team environment, as there are always at least 3 or 4 other volunteers here . We are looking for helpers that are here to enjoy the lodge and what we have to offer (hiking, sauna, games, yoga, other guests & staff, etc) as opposed to sitting and staring at their device during their off hours. We have wifi, but also have an amazing view, and we think that's more exciting!!
We will have limited guests now due to Covid-19, so oftentimes volunteers will be assigned to other tasks such as helping in the garden, or with small maintenance projects.
Private or shared room
If helpers have other skills such as being yoga teachers, carpenters, masseuses, or anything along those lines, there are opportunities.
There is great hiking around, wonderful views, hammocks to relax in, and we are very close to Antigua.
Helpers can take the bus to Antigua (about 20 minute drive away) on market days, or join an existing guest shuttle to get back and forth to Antigua.

We have pets
We are smokers
