Hi! We're Steph and Jon, a reformed lawyer and folk musician who decided to clear out of London and seek a sunnier life in Catalonia.
We have a small off-grid farm in Tarragona province, where we are teaching ourselves permaculture and trying to live as sustainably as possible. We live surrounded by mountains and nature, in a beautiful, peaceful and isolated spot.
Our home is a yurt, shared with two rescue pups and a cat who thinks he's a dog. Most of our life is outdoors. We'd love to share it with you!

Help with Eco Projects
Our home is beautiful and offers a chance to reconnect with nature. Talk to trees, admire the stars, use new muscles, learn new skills, make new friends.
As well as being a lawyer, Steph teaches English and is a European swing dance champion. As well as being a musician, Jon is an actor, writer and director who loves Tai Chi and Capoeira. We both practise yoga and have strong opinions on sci-fi of all kinds. We love meeting people, having singalongs and arguing about films from the 80s. So come and join in the debate, we want to hear about your travels and experiences, and we are happy to share what we've learned!
We are only just getting established, and Steph works full time as well as trying to balance farm projects... so we have a lot of ideas and areas where volunteers could assist, depending on what you're into!
Our biggest projects this year are:
- refurbishing a guest/volunteer cabin
- building an external kitchen
- building a sub-terranean earthbag house
- rebuilding and renovating our masia (stone outbuilding)
- harvesting almonds
- pruning our almond and olive trees
- harvesting olives
- setting up for chickens
- building rocket mass heaters
- tending the veg patch
- clearing land
However assistance with cooking, dog walking or any other skills you have would potentially be welcome too. We ask for 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Current accommodation is in our guest yurt (shared outdoor kitchen, shower and composting loo), or in a tent if you'd prefer a bit more distance (your own kitchen, shower and composting loo). However hopefully our cabin will be finished this summer, in which case that will be the default volunteer space. Wherever you are, you'll have a proper mattress and nice bedding!
We are in the Ebro valley, so there is plenty to do nearby. Half an hour from the beach, ten minutes from the Ebro river (kayaking, fishing), plenty of hiking and cycling trails, Templar castles, civil war museums, the Delta d'Ebre for birdwatching, a train museum. Barcleona and Tarragona are cities well worth visiting, and you can catch the train from our nearest town. Our local village has a lovely outdoor pool open throughout the summer. Public transport is OK but limited.
