    Description

    Hello,

My name is Harry and I'm 31 years old and from London. In 2016 a friend and I founded a charity in Eastern Uganda where we started out by building a school, providing safe drinking water and building toilets. Last year we expanded our activities to include a greater part of the community, introducing a Microfinance program for women and improvements in teacher training and the well-being of the children. We have strong belief that in order for our work to be sustainable we must work together with the local community and that the programs are running even when we're not there.

As a small new organisation we are very much finding our feet but this year we have focused on education and microfinance. I think this variety in projects is what our volunteers enjoy the most. As a small nimble operation we have the flexibility to respond to feedback and comments from the community and we encourage dialogue with the locals to get a full understanding of the history, culture and challenges of the region.

By being small we have a great family dynamic and we all stay in a house together when we're in Uganda. We have dinner together, play cards, brainstorm problems and host local guests. It's awesome!

    Work hard play hard…..

While weekdays are hard and rewarding, weekends are a lot fun. We usually do day trips together and last year went kayaking, rafting, fishing, visited waterfalls, went trail running, camping, mountain climbing and lots more.

There is a minimum stay of 1month but no maximum so you can stay for as long as you want (there's a chance you never want to leave)!

Volunteers with specific background or experience in Teaching, Microfinance and International Development are preferred.

We are also looking for an In Country Manager to oversee all operations from the village! This will require being in Uganda for 9-12 months. Please note this in your application.

Uganda is an amazing country with a beautiful culture, climate and natural beauty. By volunteering with us you get to experience Uganda, make new friends from all over the world and help create new opportunities through collaboration with a rural community.

This year we are looking for:
    - Volunteers to help out at the school, with both educational and non-educational matters. This will entail implementing educational improvements together with the local teachers, allocating the governmental funds and working with the well-being of the children. This role is suitable for someone with previous experience in education or child care.
    - Volunteers to work with our microfinance program. This may entail data collection through surveys, interviewing new candidates, keeping track of the programs finances. This role is suitable for someone that's good with numbers and looking for a new challenge.

We all stay in a volunteer house in the village where you will get a real Uganda experience. The house has electricity but no running water, we can only offer a bucket shower. All beds are equipped with a mosquito net. During the weekends we go to the nearby town of Mbale and stay at a guest house where you can enjoy a hot water shower and socialise with the local community and also other NGO workers.
