    Description

    Hi,
We are Samantha(46) and Joris (48), we decided to change our way of life recently.
We want to do something meaningfull in a green space.

Help us start up our social project for youngsters in need of a time out.
Did you know that in Belgium an average from 2 pupils a class drop out of high-school? This happens for different reasons, but they need a quiet place to heal.
We bought an old farm in Gingelom, Limburg that we are restoring to it’s former beauty to create such a place.
A place where they can be themselves without pressure, where it's okay to need time.
We are doing this in a ecological way and our goal is to be self-sustainable as much as possible.
Also we have a huge garden/ pasture where we will grow food and teach the youngsters the benefits of working outdoors and being creative with food.

We are still in the learning process of all of this ourselves but we would love to share the journey!
We can teach you things and maybe it can be an exchange of knowlege!

The area is very green and fantastic for hiking and biking. Belgium is centrally located and a good stop over during travel though Europe.
We live in a very quiet place without much activity. BUT we have an amazing fry-shop in the street however (an absolute must) and we will cater a summer pop-up bar for bikers and hikers.
We make our own atmosfere :-)
And the're are nice town close-by. We are also a street away of the french speaking part of Belgium.

We mostly work with food in connection of growing our own and making preserves and cook for ourselves and with the youngsters. The part where will serve and sell food will be operated by youngsters working as students but in a safe environment. The workawayers will not do this as it's a way to get our youngsters back on the working track.

For now we have three caravans and a bathroom unit outside. We mostly live outside but as we live in Belgium we obviously have a dry place for when it rains 😊 we converted a stable into a kitchen, dining room, relax room, gameroom. It’s pretty basic but clean and airy. There are also some tents for those who prefere it.
We have a firepit on the field in the evenings, bbq, pingpong table, … and building a pétanque strip is on our chore list!
We have two small caravans (sleeps two each but single use is possible) and a larger one (sleeps four) to accomodate up to 4/6 workawayers. We have lots of rooms we will be renovating but I’m afraid it will take some time to them done. We are new to workaway but have worked with volonteers and we love the atmosphere and we love hosting. Be assured you will have a fun learning experience on top of adding value to the World!

In your time off you can hike, bike, or get around with public transportation. There are lots of lovely cities a train ride away. And we also have a car to drive you around once in a while :-) we are also still exploring that side of Belgium.
