    Description

    Bonjour !
I would greatly appreciate help in the house and garden from now until to early-mid September.
Our home is 3kms from one of the lovely little medieval Breton towns in the department. There are many lovely countryside walks in the locality and we are just 18kms from the coast or the city of Saint Brieuc. Public transport is available from the next village - a 1km walk or I may be able to offer a lift to the bus stop.

For accommodation, I can offer a nice room with private shower and toilet facilities and all meals provided. Wifi is available if you bring your equipment.

Especially welcomed would be someone with decorating experience who would be willing to help freshen up some of the rooms in the house.
Your help would be greatly appreciated around the garden too - light gardening/weed clearance in the palm beds and small flower border. Our garden shed was painted by a lovely couple 3 years ago but needs freshening up now. We also have a wooden bench which we'd like sanding down (electric sander available) and then repainted in nice bright summery colours too! In effect, it's a nice project to be overseen from start to finish! There are never enough hours in our days to get all these jobs done, are there?

I'm very happy to offer regular language assistance / practice on a 1-2-1 basis to anyone wishing to perfect their english language skills.

The household language here is English, but outside our gate is 100% French, as we do not live in an English enclave. I would be happy to help anyone wanting to learn the English language - French speakers are especially welcome, as then we both gain something from the visit!

I do have 2 caged cockatiels living inside the house with us so this needs to be taken into consideration if you should have any allergies or intolerance towards these creatures. There is a calm and affectionate elderly Labrador in the household (who is never allowed upstairs in the bedroom areas), so any helpers must be true animal lovers, and not merely tolerate having them around. She is very friendly and non-aggressive and not in the best of health so long walks or similar are not possible.
This is a strictly non-smoking house, with no exceptions whatsoever. Due to previous smokers using the garden flowerbeds as ashtrays, I would only accept civilised smokers who could assure me they wouldn't do this.
Food consists of breakfast with cereal, orange juice, toast and preserves. Lunch is usually light, maybe soup (freshly home-made), sandwiches or the previous night's leftovers along with freshly baked home-made bread. Our main meal is ALWAYS taken in the evenings - old habits from working days die hard!.

Don't hesitate to contact us if you'd like more information as a friendly chat beforehand is always advantageous for both parties! I'm happy to phone you back on any countries fixed landlines - although certain European mobiles are also fine.

We are not 'clock-watchers' here doing fixed hourly ‘schedules’ and routines - every day tends to brings differing priorities in this household.

Age is no restriction here but due to the type of area where we live, the lack of night-life and severely restricted public transport, this would possibly be of more interest to older people rather than lively teenagers who need pubs, concerts, clubbing and the bright city lights for entertainment.

By having a workawayer in our home, I hope to get some of those smaller household or garden tasks completed which have been outstanding for awhile now.

Your help would be greatly appreciated around the house and in the garden - light gardening/weed clearance as necessary would be great.

    Accommodation

Our home is modern with most mod cons (no air-con though). Wi-fi is available if you bring your tablet or laptop. We can offer one bedroom with your own (attached) private en-suite shower room / toilet. French or English TV is available in a separate lounge area, also I have a large selection of (multi-language) DVDs available for relaxing in the evenings if you wish.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

This is a strictly non-smoking household and I can smell the stench of cigarettes a mile away in a gale force wind!. Therefore I do request any smokers to use the terrace or driveway for their habit. I’m really very sorry, but I cannot make any exceptions to this - even in inclement weather.

Don't forget your health & personal insurance, you are not covered in any way on our insurance. UK residents get the form from the post office to say you have UK national health cover or France will expect you to pay up front & claim it back later - also it only covers for medical expenses, not the ambulance nor any inpatient expenses of hospital stays, so it is always advisable to have extra cover.
