We are an older couple getting close to retirement. We have hosted exchange students and workawayers for over 30 years. We will include you in our activities, but are also fine giving you space to do your own thing as well.

This is of the most beautiful places in Canada. For those who love the remote and rugged coastline, and its abundance of wildlife and sea creatures, a plethora of berries and vegetation, hiking and fishing opportunities, this is paradise. There are many boaters from the US and Canada who make their way into our inlet to spend a night or two at the dock on their way to Alaska or other coastal destinations. Life is casual and unhurried, but never dull!
Ocean Falls is very remote and located on one of the protected channels of the Central BC coast in the Great Bear Rainforest. This is the ghost-town remains of a once-thriving community of nearly 5000 inhabitants over 30 years ago. With the remaining aging population of approximately 25 full time residents, it is difficult to keep up with the challenges of living in the Great Bear Rain Forest. Duties could be anything from painting to building, to vegetation control. We have just purchased 2 older buildings in the townsite that we will be working on in 2019, one of which we are running as a bed and board Inn and the other that we are turning into a residence. There are no stores or cell phones although we do have limited satellite internet and a landline.
It is not easy to get to Ocean Falls due to its remote location. To come in or out on your own, you will have to fly on Pacific Coastal airline to/from Vancouver to Bella Bella and catch the ferry from there to Ocean Falls. Alternately, if you have a car, you can fly Bella Coola and take the ferry to Ocean Falls from there. a one-way walk-on fare is about $75 per person. the ferry comes approximately once a week so you would have to coordinate your travels.
You will be staying right on the ocean either in a houseboat at the dock or another building steps from the water. You will be provided with bed and bedding as well as meals. We cannot accommodate vegetarians or vegans.
There is never enough time to do all the things there is to do.... hiking, ocean fishing, lake fishing, crabbing, exploring the abandoned buildings and cabins. We have hosted many workawayers at our home in Edmonton, but it is a new opportunity to be able to share our vacation place. We like to put back into this community when we can, and you would be helping us with those projects too, but we always make time for going fishing! You MUST be a non-smoker and it would help a lot if you like seafood! We do not wish to work around specialized diets such as vegan or vegetarian.
