Description
Hello Workawayers!
We are a small association located in rural Germany - 45 min from Rostock and the balticsea, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
We live in a village inside a village :) - we own a space with an old mansion that we are trying to rebuild, a small house that two of us already live in, a guesthouse that we rent out, a small apple orchard, a seasonal cidery, a sauna that is used twice a week by people from the surrounding community, a garden that need attention and three tiny houses/bauwagen that house people temporarily.
Our aim is to tend to this space, to keep it open for people to use, to share it, to build it further, to unlock its potential. The association at this place has existed for more than 25 years - but we as the "new generation" are only active for 4 years now.
we do not live communally - we live in small families with and without kids. but sometimes we share meals, we share chores, we have meetings in order to run the place. we are constantly creating the space - whilst working our jobs, tending to our kids and traveling to the city :). its a lot - but we grew quite good at the art of only doing what we really are capable to do, of choosing wisely what we take on and of being ok with the imperfect.
we are an lgbtqia+ friendly project - not all of us all into these categories - but the majority does! :)
we have adorable children that can light up your day - or enerve you and that ist also ok :) you do not have to spend time with them!
we are surrounded by fields and forrest and lakes and friendly people and other projects. also the public transport sucks there is almost always a car or a bike to use - and the bus goes twice a day.Types of help and learning opportunities
Help with Eco ProjectsGardeningDIY and building projectsUN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
we are a rare species: a leftist, lgbtqia+ friendly, ecological and anti-racism oriented project in the middle of the outback of germany where the overall acceptance of the right wing parties is one of the highest in germany. yet, we manage to handle that, have good connections to other rainbow-projects and can offer unique and in depth perspectives into living in germany.
there is also a lot to be learned by doing - because we really allow you to take on building and restoring projects - with some advice or help - and just give things a try you have never done before!Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
What we need help with depends on the season and the actual situation.
But: There is always something to build or to repair or to paint ( a fence, a bench, a door, a road..), something to weed or to cut back (a hedge, a meadow, firewood), something to do in the garden, something to organize.
We are not always around and need people who - after careful orientation and together deciding what to do and how to do it and after receiving everything they need in order to do it - are able and willing to work and be on their own.Languages spoken

you will always have your own space. that might be a room in the guesthouse, one of the Bauwagen or a room in the small house two of us live in. you will find wifi everywhere.
heating in the winter works with wood ovens that you will also be asked to tend to.
as for the meals: it will probably be a mixture of us eating together and sharing the load of cooking - and you being able to use stuff from our pantry or tell us what you would like and we get it for you and you cook for yourself. if you don't want to you will never have to cook for us.What else ...
in our time off we like to go to one of the lakes for a swim - or to go for a hike in the forest - or a tour on the nearby river with a kayak. there is a small town about 10km from us with shops and cafés, the interesting towns Rostock and Wismar are to reach within 45 minutes with lots if things to do and beaches. its 2,5 hours to Hamburg by train and 3 to Berlin. there are from time to time gatherings or cultural events nearby that we go to.
all of this is on display for you to.A little more information
