    Description

    Namaste!

Does setting up an eco-hostel and natural farm interest you?

Are you interested in learning/sharing skills on kitchen gardens, compost, rainwater harvesting and permaculture? Have you wondered how to build a tree house/huts... or have experience with it?

Sit back comfortably... breathe in, find peace, paint your hands with soil, wander around the stream and work with mother nature in a meaningful way.

Our hostel is a small property (0.5 Hectare) attached to a larger farm. In 2020, we started working with a Permaculture designer to restore the habitat and natural diversity of our land, and being the steps to eventually turn it into a food forest.

Our farm is located in-between the beauty of the "Nandi Hills" area and the exploding cosmopolitan city of Bangalore. If you would like to enjoy an amazing hill view, with a little stream close by, we would love to be your hosts. We welcome solo adventurers or groups too. The Permaculturalist facilitating our development is also an instructor and teacher... so this is a great opportunity for learning, sharing and contributing to the project, whatever your level of experience is!

The current project is the little space on the side of the farm that we are converting into a hostel. There's already a structure with rooms and a dormitory. We are converting the old cow shed into a kitchen and want to setup 5 bamboo or wood huts. Our staff is a local couple that live onsite. They help with cooking, cleaning and some basic garden work.

We are located 60kms from Bangalore and 10ms from Bangalore international airport.

The area is set near numerous ancient temples and also scenic villages. The hill close by makes the ideal hike and offers wonderful views around the region.

The team that will build the tree houses are a group of local artisans from a neighboring state. They are experienced with their craft and their skills are invaluable. This is better than going to study natural building or attending a workshop!

    - Daytime hikes to the near by hills
    - Visiting ancient temples
    - Weekend trips to the nearby city OR other towns of historical interest (Bangalore, Mysore, Hampi, Gokarna, Kerala)

The main objective now is to setup the treehouses and get the hostel running.

    - Kitchen garden (veggie beds, mandala garden)
    - a small tropical fruit orchard (from scratch)
    - making heaps of compost
    - helping in build the tree houses
    - surveying, mapping
    - electrical work / carpentry work
    - laying pathways

And just about any other skill you have, we can put to use!

We ask for about 5 hours of work a day and 5 days a week. Realistically there will be ample free time for you to focus on music, yoga or whatever your passion is. As this is a critical stage in the project, we prefer self managed people who can take initiative of little tasks and get them going!

Our location has good internet connectivity. For around US $15 to $20 a month, travellers can buy a mobile hotspot/USB dongle that should work in almost every region of India. The Reliance "JIO" provider works best in rural areas near the larger cities.
