Description
Hi! Join us in beautiful Pottenstein!
My husband Francisco and I (Meg) are running a small guesthouse in Pottenstein, an area famous for it's natural wonders, wellness and activities like mountain biking, kayaking, hiking, and visiting the local attractions. I am Australian and Francisco is American so we are native English speakers.
Pottenstein is a very popular tourist destination yet is still rich in German culture. We love the German culture and traditions and would love to share what we know and encourage you to explore the town and surrounds.
Our guesthouse has 6 rooms (i.e. hotel rooms) and we plan to renovate to add more rooms. It also has a very large restaurant that we plan to open in the coming months. It has a beautiful big pond and lots of nature, gardens, and wildlife. We're health focused and eco conscious.
On the top floor is a very large "owner's residence" where we live. It has 4 bedrooms and a big living area. This is where you would stay with us - on site at the guesthouse. We welcome solo travellers, couples, and families or groups. We have three bedrooms available.
There are many things we are working on: our online marketing and content creation, revitalising the gardens, nurturing the pond to attract local wildlife, maintaining and repairing parts of the hotel building, preparing our cafe/bar/restaurant for opening, offering in room dining and breakfast to our hotel guests and the list goes on.
We're very enthusiastic and passionate about what we're doing. Our brand message is "Easy, Casual, Always Nice" and we like to practice this in everything we do. We make it as easy as possible for our guests, we keep it casual meaning we are ourselves and don't expect false facades from our employees or our guests (just be comfortable!), and always nice refers to the high standard of products and services.

I am Australian and love sharing our relaxed easy going way of life, food, and sense of humour. Francisco is American (from Texas!!) and equally loves sharing his cultural norms, providing true southern hospitality and great banter.
We're both native English speakers yet have been in Germany for some time, immersing ourselves in the culture here. I would love to show you what I know about German culture and more than likely there will be a cultural event or tradition of sorts when you're here that we can attend together!
Francisco is also Spanish and he speaks Spanish.
I speak beginner level German and Spanish.
We welcome people from all cultures and are eager to learn what we can from you and your culture. Equally, we welcome Aussies, Spaniards or Americans seeking familiarity, there'll still be something to learn from each other!Host offers payment in line with the minimum wage

Help
We invite lovely people of all skillsets and backgrounds. Some key areas include:
- assistance preparing meals and cooking for hotel guests and for our cafe
- back of house hotel operations like cleaning hotel rooms
- gardening
- building/renovation or labour support
- creative projects like art pieces around the property, creating products you can sell in our retail shop
- front of house support if you can speak German including phone calls and emails but also working in the cafe or assisting hotel guests
We will pay above German minimum wage for all positions. It depends on your skillset and the roles you will take on but all positions start at 15 Euros per hour. Accommodation is included with all positions.
We're an English speaking home so English knowledge to some degree is required. We're of course happy to help you improve your English if you are learning.
Depending on the skills and experience you bring and the type of work you would like to do will determine the arrangement we make for paying you for your work. Germany is in the centre of Europe and it is so easy to travel and explore other countries. Given this, for those seeking a work/travel arrangement we're happy to accommodate scheduling to fit - travelling is amazing!!!
We will refine the details depending on your skills but we will expect a minimum (i.e. 5-10hrs/week) and then we'll build from there.

Accommodation
You will have your own room in our large 4 bedroom apartment at the top of the hotel. Your room will be upstairs. It's small and simple but it's yours. It is a quiet, private space to relax and unwind. There's wifi across the property.
You need to be comfortable with stairs, there are a lot of them!
You will share the kitchen, bathroom and living areas with me and Francisco and any other workawayers we have staying. Depending on when you come, my mum may also be staying with us.
I hope we can have dinner together some nights. Francisco and I love cooking. We would love to cook with you and learn about foods/dishes you love. I am often trialing recipes and dishes for the cafe/restaurant and have a lot of left overs from that too.
When we're not eating together, everybody just organises their own meals. Of course you have full use of the kitchen any time and staple ingredients but please anticipate buying your own food a lot of the time. We're sharing people by nature so we'll of course never let you go hungry but contribution is appreciated.
What else ...
We can find something for you to do, whether you have a trade (builder, chef, landscaper) or degree (marketing, health science) or have just finished school and don't have work experience yet, we're looking for people with good intentions, a kind approach.

oooohhhh boy do we love dogs - and cats. Our hotel is pet friendly (dogs and cats) so your pet just needs to be okay with other pets. Your pet/s will be the only ones in the apartment (Francisco and I don't have pets) but they will encounter guest's pets around the property. Also, toiletting can be a little bit inconvenient as you will have to take your dog downstairs outside. If that's okay with you then that's okay with us!
