We are a group of young architects that founded an NGO to build sustainable architecture projects in Latin America. Recently we finished our first projects, the construction of a Cultural Center, the "Centro Cultural". The Centro Cultural is located within the community of a beautiful little fishervillage on the coast of Ecuador. Many volunteers from all around the world joined us over the past year and just made the construction side an amazing experience - for us just as for the locals. Friends were made and the volunteers enjoyed getting to know the local culture and ways of living.

Since October 2020 we started working on the activation of the Centro Cultural. Together with volunteers of the village, and other people we are organizing little events, so far mainly for kids. Until now, we have organized movie nights, painting classes, boardgame afternoons, other handcraft, circus or music workshops and and and.... the list of possibilities is endless! Now in April we also started with a weekly english class.
Input is more than welcome and whoever wants to share new ideas is very welcome to do so!
On the first floor of the Centro Cultural we have two rooms for up to 4 volunteers that organize and maintain the place, give workshops, play with the kids and connect with the people from the village that always come over to visit.
We spend a lot of time together, not only working but exchanging ideas and stories, cooking, going to the beach or riding bikes through the ricefields. There is always something to do!

    english:
The locals in the village work as fishermen, rice farmers or produce salt and other products. They will gladly take you with them and teach you everything about it. A at least beginners/basic level of spanish will be required of course.
If you are interested in working a bit more within the community in exchange for food there are always options to do so. We made good experience with it. The people in the village like to share their knowledge about agriculture and when you spend some hours helping out on the fields or cutting fish they can help you out with some locally produced products.

The range is wide open...It depends on the team and in the individual volunteer. Everyone is very welcome that is motivated to organize activities and workshops, to build furniture, play with kids and doesn´t mind getting the clothes dirty helping to keep the place in good shape is very welcome.

    - Maintenance projects: Painting the bamboo and wood with varnish, repairing small things, keeping the space around the center clean
-Gardening: we are in the making of a big comunity garden were we will plant all kinds of veggies and herbs.

    - Furniture building: we are still missing some basic furniture peaces for the two bedrooms and the storage room. Therefore we recycle some leftover material we still have from the construction, mostly bamboo and wood.

We would like the volunteers to work in a team and organize themselves as we´re not fans of hierarchies and want everyone to be equal, we are looking for people that can work independently and see what can be done without someone needing to tell them what to do. In short morning meetings we always talk about the daily tasks.
All new ideas for activities that we can organize together or other suggestions are more tan welcome!
