Description
We are a family-run vineyard operation in the South Okanagan, British Columbia, working with several organic vineyards around us. In spring, the vines need care and attention as the season begins, and we’re looking for motivated couples who would like to be part of that process and learn real viticulture skills.
I’m originally from Belgium and lived for eight years in Barcelona, where I worked as a DJ before moving into vineyard management. I speak French, English, and Spanish fluently. My wife is from British Columbia, and we have three children. We also share our place with a friendly dog, two cats, and free-roaming chickens.
You would be working alongside us and a young French worker who is already part of the team, so there’s a nice international and social atmosphere while still being focused on the work.
Volunteers will help with early-season vineyard maintenance — tying, clean-up, and general vine care. No previous vineyard experience is required, but motivation, reliability, and a good attitude are essential. I enjoy teaching and am happy to train you and share everything I know about viticulture, from practical hands-on skills to how vineyards are managed through the season.
Accommodation is a beautiful lake-view suite in Kaleden, a quiet and scenic village about 15 minutes from Penticton. It’s a small paradise with incredible views, fresh air, and access to lakes, hiking, and local wineries.
This experience is ideal for couples who enjoy working outdoors, are curious about agriculture and wine, and are looking for a genuine cultural exchange in a family environment.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
After many years living in busy European cities, I chose to settle here for the tranquility and beauty of nature. Life in Kaleden is calm, surrounded by vineyards, lake views, and open space, and this peaceful rhythm is a big part of the experience we offer.
Even though our day-to-day life is busy, we enjoy reconnecting with different cultures and people from around the world, much like I used to when living in a big city. The exchange here happens naturally — through working outdoors, sharing perspectives, and living in a beautiful rural environment alongside people from different backgrounds.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge of vine care, viticulture, and winemaking, and I’m always happy to explain how things are done and why. For those interested in wine, I can also give good advice on wineries to visit in the region for learning, tasting, and discovering different styles and approaches.
Outside of work, there is plenty of freedom to enjoy nature and personal time. A beautiful beach is only five minutes away, and the area offers swimming, hiking, and quiet places to relax. This experience suits people who appreciate independence, fresh air, and a slower pace, while still enjoying the richness that comes from meeting people from different cultures.

Help
We are looking for motivated and reliable couples to help with early-season vineyard work across several small vineyards managed organically.
The work takes place early in the morning, which is typical for vineyard work, especially as temperatures rise. Tasks include:
Vine tying and training
Pruning clean-up
General vineyard maintenance
Occasional light help around the property
In addition, we are planning to build a small deck. If you have basic construction or carpentry experience, this is very welcome but not required. Vineyard work will always remain the main focus.
No previous vineyard experience is required. However, you should be comfortable with physical outdoor work, early mornings, and working as part of a small team. Motivation, reliability, and a positive attitude are essential.
You will work alongside us and a young French team member. We take time to explain tasks properly and are happy to train you and share practical knowledge about viticulture and vineyard management.
Hours & payment:
Approximately 6 hours per day, mainly in the early morning, 5 or 6 days per week. Work is paid at $18 an hour. Comfortable accommodation in a private lake-view suite is provided, along with utilities.
This opportunity is ideal for couples who are genuinely interested in vineyard work, learning new skills, and being part of a family-run operation. It is not suitable for people looking only for free accommodation or short-term, casual stays.

Languages have always been a big part of my life. I speak French, English, and Spanish fluently and naturally pick up elements of other Latin languages. My wife’s family has roots in the Czech Republic, so we’re used to a mix of cultures and languages. We genuinely enjoy exchanging words, expressions, and perspectives with people from all over the world.
Accommodation
We offer very comfortable, clean, and secure accommodation, with 3 different options depending on availability and the length and quality of the stay.
The first option is a small, private lake-view suite, ideal for a couple. It’s simple, cozy, and fully equipped — nothing fancy, but comfortable and functional, with everything needed for daily life.
The second option is a larger, high-quality suite that is normally rented as an bnb. This space can accommodate up to two couples and includes one king bed and one queen bed in the same open space (one bed is on a mezzanine, without a separating wall). The suite has a full kitchen, living room, laundry facilities, television, internet, and all modern comforts. It’s a top-notch space in a beautiful setting.
Both accommodations are fully furnished and include proper beds, bathroom, full kitchen, laundry, Wi-Fi, and living areas.
Our priority is the work and the exchange, and accommodation is assigned accordingly.
Food is self-catered. Guests are responsible for their own meals, and the nearest town and supermarket are about a 15-minute drive away.
The location is rural and peaceful, with vineyards and nature all around, and a beautiful beach just five minutes from the property. This setup suits independent people who value privacy, comfort, and a calm environment.
We also have a trailer fully serviced on the vineyard below us available for a couple.
What else ...
Kaleden is a quiet, rural area surrounded by vineyards, lake views, and nature. A car is strongly recommended if you want independence and easy access to town, grocery shopping, and exploring the region. Public transport is very limited, and the nearest supermarket and services are about 15 minutes away by car.
For work purposes, vehicles are provided, including going to the nearby beach. This does not replace having your own transportation for personal errands and free time.
The area offers plenty to do during time off. There is a beautiful beach only five minutes from the property, great hiking and cycling, some very nice climbing spots nearby, and many wineries to explore in the Okanagan Valley.
We generally ask for half a day of work, usually in the morning. However, work is always available, and if you prefer to work a full day, that is possible as well. We are flexible with schedules and trust people to manage their time responsibly, as long as the work gets done.
Our lifestyle is calm and family-oriented. Early mornings are common, and evenings are generally quiet. We ask Workawayers to be respectful of shared spaces, keep accommodation clean, and be mindful of noise, especially in the evenings.
This experience is best suited to independent, responsible people who enjoy nature, flexibility, and a relaxed rural environment rather than nightlife or structured social activities.

Internet access

Limited internet access

We have pets

We are smokers

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
For digital nomads, the accommodation has reliable internet and comfortable indoor space suitable for remote work. Early mornings are typical due to vineyard work, but afternoons are generally free, which can work well for people who manage their own schedules. This setup is best suited to nomads who are comfortable with rural life and don’t need cafés or co-working spaces nearby on a daily basis.

Space for parking camper vans
We also have space available for campers or motorhomes, with access to basic facilities such as outdoor toilet and electricity. Please note that this is a working vineyard property, so campers should be comfortable with an active outdoor environment rather than a campground-style setup.
