We are registered NGO. The headquarters office located in Muungoni, 29 miles from Stone Town, Zanzibar. We want to make sure that orphans, disabled youth and adults get free access to school. As well we want to give them humanity-focused values to take them with in their future life.
My name is Abubakar. I am 23 years old.
I decided to help people for free even if there are a lot of challenges I have to face off. In addition, I rent classrooms of a private school in Muungoni for two hours every night from Wednesday to Saturday.
I also would like to learn French language so that if there is any volunteer who can help me learning the language will be awesome.
Also my place is really local so if you're coming you'll have to understand that you are coming in local Village to experience the real life of Zanzibar and the accommodation has no electricity so we use local lamps as the sources of light but it's safe and friendly place with beautiful and smiley people.
Through workaway.info I already got some volunteers who helped me with the first steps, such as taking pictures of the environment, creating a donation page or setting up a bank account. I am very proud and thankful for you! However, the important goals have not been achieved.
We still need a lot of equipment such as english books and blank paper. Furthermore I need more volunteers, at the same time I must expand my volunteers house. There is a lot to do, but with the right tools and support everything will be possible.

During their stay volunteers will be able to learn how our teaching is done and the importance of education for the local people. As well your opinion is important to us!
English is a very important language in order to be successful in the future. During the stay volunteers can learn some Swahili from locals, learn to cook and enjoy local dishes. Volunteers will see how the village works and learn about the culture. Close to Muungoni we have a special mangrove ecosystem that volunteers can explore and learn about how it functions. We believe that volunteers will learn many things while staying with us and in exchange showing us about themselves and about their culture as well.
Right now our main activities are teaching English. We have two different classes which differ in their performance. We rent the rooms of a private school and teach in the evening from 7 to 8:30.
Also in the morning from 10:30 to 11:30 As well we need external help to manage our future organization. Continually, we have bought the land for building the school right away so i would like to have also volunteers who can support me with building our own school.
Everyone who is willing to lend a helping hand is welcome! :)
Swahili (Kiswahili): Fluent
We provide 3 meals a day. Meals are local homemade dishes. Volunteers will have their own private room and bathroom in a traditional home in the village.
I also like to guide you to the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar, Bird Island (Mangroves, Birds) or Stone Town!
In their free time volunteers can enjoy village life, get to know the locals, visit the nearby mangroves and nature trails. Bicycles can be provided for rides around our village and also to nearby villages. Zanzibar is famous for its beautiful beaches. Paje is just 10-15 min away from Muungoni where you can snorkel and enjoy the amazing atmosphere. Zanzibar Town is very close and cheap public transport is readily available where you can find many restaurants, bars and tourist attractions. Volunteers can learn about local ways of cooking, dressing and local medicines. There are many interesting things to do around Muungoni, however it is also a nice place to just relax, connect with nature and enjoy the surroundings and people.
