Description
**** PLEASE note our community center burned down in 2020, so we are very limited on cabins/beds. but we have an outdoor kitchen which is not ideal in the winter. there is a heated functioning guest bathroom and shower and indoor sink you can use in our private home that is accessible from outside. We have lots of room for van camping and rvs. We are not sure when we will be fully open again. If you come in the winter there is a good chance that there will be no other guests here and nothing to do . ****
To best describe us, I would say its like a Free rustic guest ranch for young adults, veterans , nerds , and artists we have a huge garden, free basic food and a boat in the summer.
Some people liken it to a hostel but we are free and not open to the public, people have to apply to stay with us so we keep out the drunks and creepers, Much of our facilities are made with recycled materials. its not very fancy, but the best part of visiting here is the friends you might make. we play RPG games, video games, go on hikes , make big dinners from the garden, and go on adventures to rivers or the lake. we have bikes to take everyone on bike tours of missoula, and cool dogs to go on walks with, work out at our outside fitness area, warm up by a fire, Sheep to talk too, strawberries and raspberries.
We have free food , so you can virtually live here for no money for a very long time and simply be. BUT we are not kosher, not vegan, not vegetarian, not dairy free, and very not gluten free. Everything we cook has meat in it , even if i serve a banana it likely has bacon in it and is served on a glutenous cracker and covered with melty cheese. if you have any kind of food based mental illness, you must cater to your own insanity, and buy and make your food.
We let people stay for free for one night, or 3-20 days or maybe even longer if they help out around the facility, improving and maintaining the place for three hours of labor per day. we clean, farm/garden, stack wood and recycle materials. Our longest guest stayed 3 years.
We are drug and alcohol free on site , except for holidays (which happen often), but people can go party in town or in the woods, just don't come back until your sober.
we also have a car dealership and weld trailers to pay the mortgage. you can fly here , buy a cheap car for around $1000 or less and drive around then sell it when you are done with it.
we have an application it can take an hour to complete, it is new so let us know it you have any problems filling it out.Types of help and learning opportunities
