THE VISION 💫🌿
Our dream is to rewild the island and help its native landscape thrive by managing invasive plants and clearing overgrowth. We see ourselves as custodians of the land and hope it can eventually become a peaceful source of inspiration for artists and creatives.
THE HELP 🌱🪵
During September and October, we welcome two or more practical, positive people to help with seasonal tasks, including:
Trimming invasive plants and shrubs
Clearing overgrown areas
Gathering branches and cut vegetation
Keeping paths and outdoor areas clear
Moving and stacking wood that has already been cut
The activities vary with the weather and can be physically active. Gardening or landscaping experience is welcome but not essential, enthusiasm, common sense and enjoyment of outdoor life are more important.
We welcome stays of two weeks or longer.
CULTURAL EXCHANGE 🌍🤝
For us, Workaway is about sharing experiences and learning from one another. We will introduce you to the Åland archipelago and share our knowledge of its nature, wildlife, seasons and island culture.
We enjoy cooking and eating together, exchanging recipes and hearing about our guests’ cultures, traditions and experiences. In your free time, you can relax on the island or explore the wider archipelago. We will happily share local knowledge and suggest places to visit.
REMOTE ISLAND LIFE 🏝️🌦️🚣♀️
The house has electricity and Wi-Fi, but reaching the island involves several kilometres of dirt track followed by a short boat journey. Groceries, luggage and supplies must be brought over by boat.
The island is approximately 15 minutes from Eckerö Ferry Terminal and 35 minutes from Mariehamn. A car is strongly recommended because public transport is limited.
Life here is quiet and shaped by the weather. In return, you will experience wildlife, incredible sunsets, peaceful surroundings and a beautiful wild landscape. This exchange will suit someone who enjoys nature, outdoor activity, communal living and a little isolation.
YOUR HOSTS — SKY, SINÉAD AND YO ☀️🐕
Sky has family roots in Åland. Sinéad is Irish, and Yo is our seven-year-old Canaan dog.
We have previously lived and worked in many countries. We love sailing, architecture, design, cooking, travel, yoga and spending time outdoors.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing island life together!

The Local shop is a short trip away by motorboat or car! Mariehamn has larger supermarkets with more variety and is 40 mins drive by car. You will have a private room each if friends!
The space has 3 double bedrooms and a loft mezzanine bedroom so 4 in total! Kitchen, Living Room, Bathroom - Outdoors BBQ, Jetty, Tool Shed!
We practice 'leave no trace principles' on the island (lnt.org/why/7-principles/) all food waste goes into a compostable unit, we recycle all other waste taking it from the island to the recycling center before we leave. -
